Totally agree. Maybe by this time next year we will all be vaccinated. It will take a long time to create enough for 350 million people in the US. And then we all have to get in line. People need to adapt. The 1918 pandemic was more than 2 years.
I think Mary Babick is a great asset to the equestrian community.
They’ve already produced 300 million of one of the vaccines specifically for US use and are pre-producing mass quantities of several others as well. So hopefully if at least one of them is a strong enough candidate we will be able to make a small dent this fall. Hopefully it will go to healthcare workers and first responders and not Major League Baseball.
Unfortunately we need more like 3 billion to start resuming normal life.
The thing is, though, we won’t know immunity lasts a year until a year has passed.
Is anyone else nervous about the extremely accelerated timeline for the development of a vaccine?
Obviously we need a vaccine, and the sooner the better. I just hope they don’t cut so many corners in the process that we end up with a defective product.
I am. And I am not a anti-vaxxer by any means. But I can’t honestly say at this point that I will definitely get this vaccine when it’s available.
(I’m going to default to my primary care doc - if he tells me to get it, I will. If he tells me to hold off and wait, I’ll do that)
For everyone who thinks this will end via a vaccine, I recommend this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/08/02/covid-vaccine/
IMHO, we need to learn how to live and function and even possibly horse show with this virus, as our world has changed completely and will not return to how it was - soon or possibly ever.
Andddd now the Florida Indoors fiasco aka PNHS and WIHS are cancelled, too. Interesting to note WIHS regional, which is normally at PG eq, is moving to Morven Park in Va (much smaller zone 3 finals show).
I wonder how long before they pull the plug on Cap Challenge???
Unless maybe they’re planning to move that to either Morven, or down to VHC like MDHPS did?
I could definitely see them move CC to Lexington - huge facility, nice rings, plenty of space. Morvens indoor leaves…much to be desired. But it is an option. I am betting they share news soon, as I’m guessing PGEC will stay closed.
