Uthopia: better than Totilas!

Uthopia (AES by Metall) has just beaten Totilas at the European dressage championships. He got almost all 10s for his extended trot from all 7 judges and scored 82+%

I’ve been saying for a while that he is something special and a friend has two Uthopia foals due next year, one out of a full sister to my 3yo who is 2nd highest scoring dressage horse in the country (Jazz x Flemmingh) and one due from their dam (Flemmingh x Beaujolais)

So excited!

Oh and the Brits have won the European dressage team championships by a mile!

Very, VERY nice!!

Yeah, I guess he is alright.

Is he available to US breeders? I’m sure there are going to be some requests! Hester’s website lists his fee as 800 pounds sterling for frozen -

I don’t know if he is available in the US but I can confirm that his frozen is excellent quality. My friends two mares both got in foal on one cycle.

Carl Hester - just to give that credit! Light as a feather! Beautiful ride.

What a super ride from Carl Hester - so light and elegant and pleasant to watch. It almost makes me love dressage again.

I am very happy for the Brits - they have been working toward this goal for a long time, and it is wonderful to see a new team challenge the Dutch and German powerhouses.

Don’t forget Irish owned! How do these things work anyway? Say this horse is going to the Olympics next year, is it automatically a British horse or is he considered Irish?

Terri

The ride was great to watch. So happy for Carl Hester and the team. Carl seems like a sincerely nice guy.

Just in case anyone is interested the full sister to this mare (Jazz x Flemmingh) (both sisters have been assessed as Elite at the UK Futurity, a mark which is only given to horses considered to have the potential to be international competition horses) is going to have a Uthopia foal next year. I’m sure it will be for sale.

There is a joyfulness in the horse’s way of going that is a breath of fresh air. What a lovely ride.

For any of you that watch HRTV (DISH channel 404), there is a program called “At Home With Carl Hester” that is quite enjoyable. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and clearly a talented rider.
Both this stallion and Carl’s horse Valegro (ridden by his student Charlotte) are truly incredible dressage athletes. I could watch them schooling every day and never stop enjoying it!

Wow I have to agree, to me he is better than totilas!! When he does his extended trot he actually has pushing power from the hind end. Totilas to me didn’t have a hind end that matched his front end. But this guy seemed to have the total package!

I just watched this and posted it on my FB page - he’s gorgeous!

Careful, don’t advertise him too much. PS might buy him

Congrats to Carl Hester! Uthopia is fabulous and does have a better extended trot, however Toto is still my favorite.

Anyone know if Uthopia is licensed by KWPN or the German Verbands?

HorseTelex reports him as licensed only by AES, but it is not always 100% accurate.

Here’s a bit of info on him

http://www.uthopiastallion.com/index.htm

He is KWPN.

The interesting thing on this stallion is that his granddam on his dam’s side, Fresula, is full sibling to Ferro, his grandsire on his sire’s side.

Uthopia was born in Holland but imported to the UK as a 3 (or 4?) year old. He was not presented for grading in Holland, he’d probably have failed as he “isn’t big enough” and he is not graded KWPN although they may change their minds in the very near future! He IS graded SHB(GB) where he was grading champion and (I believe, although I can’t find him on their website) AES, both UK studbooks.

As for being linebred to Ferro and a female full sibling to Ferro that isn’t true. He’s linebred to Ulft but his damline is not Brenda:

Uthopio’s official web site lists BRENDA on both sides. Sporthorse database can be wrong as anyone can add to it.

His official web site also lists him as KWPN, I’m thinking they mean he is registered KWPN, not necessarily his approval status.

I will email owner for further clarification on both things.

ETA: He is listed as approved in the British Sport Horse- aka: Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain, and here he is listed as Brenda and Ursula, as you have mentioned Stolensilver. Best to wait and see what his owner says in the reply email.

I cannot find a listing for him on the Warmblood Breeders’ Studbook of the UK.
