Vaccination Reaction
2mini, were the vaccines 5way or higher combos?

Sometimes the reaction is thought to be caused by an overload immune reaction vs a reaction to the carrier. Is it possible to spread your vaccines out? Like I said above, it takes a couple of weeks for me to do them as I do one at a time. The only combos I use a Flu/Rhino and E/W/T. I do each of those combos separately, then WNV, then have the vet out for strangles IN, then he gives me the rabies Vx to administer later.

Paddy, do you have your vet administer every other year to keep the relationship up? If so, could you purchase the vaccines separately from him/her? Or in my case, I purchase the E/W/T, Flu/Rhino and WNV myself but have the vet out to do Coggins, Strangles IN and purchase the rabies every year. He’s ok with it because he at least sees the horse annually and is willing to work with me to prevent the reactions.
Yes, in 2015 I gave vaccinations myself and had the expensive dental specialist veterinarian out. [He only does teeth] In 2016, normal vet will be out for vaccinations and dental check. However, if I make it to 2016 without an additional vet visit, I wouldn’t know what to do with my extra money! Normal vet is not really happy with my “rotation” so I don’t want to antagonize her further by asking to purchase vaccines from her.

Today we are down to a small lump.

I had my vet give my horse his booster shots, rabies, West Nile, equine. Encephalitis and maybe another one. She gave him the shots. About 4 to 5 days later he started to walk in circles with his head down almost to the ground. he ate his pellets and alfalfa, and is also on pasture. He kept walking in circles and would never lay down to rest or stop day or night. This went on for weeks. He never stopped eating or drinking water My vet put him on IV’s, 2 liters a day, that seemed to help. She took blood to send to the lab. She told me to take him off alfalfa and put him on the costal hay they sell here in central Florida. She never told me what the blood work said. She took blood for the lab several times. But never told me what it said. After about a week she took him off the IV’s. He was ok for a day or two but still walked around in circles. She came back out to put him back on IV’s and said she had lost 6 or 7 horses from the same thing, he was the last one and she wasn’t going to loose him too. So she put 10cc of DMSO liquid in the IV and started it. He buckled for a second then seemed ok. the next morning he was lying down, which I was glad he finally did. I didn’t try to get him up, I though he needed the rest. In the afternoon I tried to get him up but he wouldn’t do it. My vet came out and my neighbors came over. It took all 5 of us to get him up and he was unstable and couldn’t stand alone. When we let go of him he went down again. My vet told me to get 10cc of dexamethasone and Iwent and got it from the house but going back out to my horse to give it to her I decided he’s been through enough and to put him down. He was unable to get up or stand and was going to die so I put his head in my lap and he went to sleep. I had him for 20 years.
Has any one ever had this happen to their horse. My vet said it was EPM but his symptoms weren’t that for EPM. I think the booster shots were either out of date or were bad.
