Vent: Petsmart Grooming Dept. Refused My Old Dog... (UPDATE, page 3)
Not from a rescue–from the town “pound” about a week ago. She was really cage aggressive and the workers were afraid to feed her, much less cut mats out. I took her because my adopted ACD acted the same way and I was sure the problem would disappear once she was out of the shelter. It did, and I’m crazy about her!
You have my favorite human of the month award.

Thanks, everyone (especially LauraKY for the groomer contacts!). Monkey (don’t laugh–she came with that name) has a vet appt on Wednesday so she’ll get a shave to get us started. Here’s a “before” photo. I’ll add an “after” afterwards.

It was a pleasure. We cocker lovers have to stick together.

***Still a collie fan too.

She’s adorable!

After seeing the picture, I’m going to say you’ll have no trouble at all getting her clipped decently with a little practice. She’s not what I think of as a Cocker-y Cocker, like mine that has hair as dense as a sheep  Obviously some sort of mix, but her coat looks more field type, which is much easier on your clippers.

Cute pup!

Cute! Not as much hair as I thought and more tail! She will look fine shaved and wont be hard to maintain. Enjoy her!

Oh my – that face! Thanks for adopting her. She’s a doll.

Monkey’s vet visit was successful! She was really good, too. I put a cloth muzzle on her, she trotted into the back for her shave-and-a-haircut, and was done five minutes later. I did hear lots of high-pitched whining, but the tech said she never tried to bite, just wiggled a lot when they put her on her back. And she came out with her (greatly diminished) tail wagging.

Another “before” http://s127.photobucket.com/user/kmclaughlin21/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpszmpal1zv.jpeg.html?o=1

And the “after”, post-shave, taken this morning http://s127.photobucket.com/user/kmclaughlin21/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsus5kaxcu.jpeg.html?o=0

The vet tech shaved behind her ears, all of her hind legs, most of her tail, and some of her belly. Couldn’t have gone better (especially for $15), but she does look a bit like Edward Scissorhands did the work!

With that shaved tail and furry neck/chest, I think she looks like the lion in that Rousseau painting of the desert and the sleeping man (“The Sleeping Gypsy”? or similar). But she feels much better, and now rolls over for belly rubs every time I walk by. The mats must have hurt before.

So, we’re waiting on the results of the blood work (heartworm test and basic blood panel), and Miss Monkey’s getting a bath this weekend. Then we’ll get a groomer to neaten her up some, and in a pattern that I can follow for later trims.

Thank you again for all the great advice and suggestions!
