Vent: SIL Wants Dog That Is Totally Inappropriate For Her!
Thank you Bacardi1

My bet is that the puppy will be on her way out in 6 months or less. In SIL’s own words “If it doesn’t work out we can just sell it, right?”

I may need some PNW COTH’ers to help out! Puppy is currently in Seattle and I am all the way on the east coast in PA.
caradino, I’m not particularly near Seattle (about 5 hours south, in OR) but if things go south I’d be willing to help out, in whatever way is needed.

I hope they don’t like their kitchen cabinets. Or their floors. I can’t imagine what that is going to smell like.

My 2yo BC is mostly a saint, and allowed out in the house alone during the day. He spends 99% of his time asleep on the bed or looking out the window anyway, and rarely bothers anything that isn’t his. Our nearly-5-month old GSD? No way. He’s crated unless fully supervised, and he’s house trained. But he’s at the point where he will chew on pretty much anything he can get his mouth on. I can’t imagine leaving an 8 week old to roam freely all day.

This reminds me of advise from a dog trainer at my last puppy’s obedience classes: Practically the first line of the first class of “puppy kindergarten”.
“do not leave any dog loose alone in your house until it is at least a year old. If its a Lab, wait till two!”

And believe me, it won’t take that Weim Pup long to figure out that it can get out of the kitchen area.

OP can you suggest that they hire a dog walker type to come in once/twice during work day to get the pup out and burn some energy?

I two puppies while working (GSP mix and Coonhound Mix) and it was not easy. BUT I walked them 20 minutes or more in the AM before leaving. I lived only about 10 minutes from office so could go home at lunch and walk/play. Had neighbors do the lunch shift if I couldn’t make it. Took each of the puppies with me almost everywhere in the evenings. Barn, walks, friends house, puppy school, whatever.

I know this is an old thread but just bumping it up to find out how it all went. We have two weimies in the house now, one ours and one a foster, and I LOVE them, but my goodness… This foster is reminding me how much work ours was when he also first arrived. They are stubborn, energetic, velcro dogs! Anyway, just curious for an update
