Vented Helmet Recommendations?

My tipperary is the coolest helmet I’ve ever worn.

Charles Owens also fit me great but they are SO DAMN HOT! I quite like my Samshield - dying to try a Kask though.[/QUOTE]

I just got my Kask Star Lady a few weeks ago. I LOVE IT!!! On my first ride I was confused as to what the cooling sensation on my head was when riding. I then realized it was the air flowing through the vents! LOL I had a Charles Owens AYR8 and this helmet fits a well bu the ventilation is amazing. Plus the removable liner is a huge plus.

I agree. While it may not be high fashion, you cannot pry my Tipperary off my overheated head during the summer here in FL. I used to ride at a HJ barn in south Florida and literally everyone schooled in Tipperarys. It is the most ventilated helmet available.
I have a OneK for shows.

One k. Cooler than my Tipperary sportage was, much cooler than my ayr8, love the washable liner. Love the fit- only helmet I’ve ever worn where I forget I’m wearing a helmet.

Another One K fan here.

Uvex active has lots of ventilation and is very comfortable.

Not to hijack, but how does the One K fit?

Yes please! How does the One K fit compared to other brands? It’s sounding like I need to try one on…

Does One K mean it costs a grand?

I find the One K fits similarly to a CO, maybe a bit more round. I have an oval head and a CO fits me perfectly. I school in a One K and it fits pretty well, but can start to give me a bit of a headache on long rides. I like it, but I probably will go for another brand when I replace it. I am also in GA and sweat a lot through my head and do not find it particularly cool.

Hahaha. It’s under $250… reasonable when compared to GPA.

I agree, it fits round heads quite nicely. That’s another reason why I went with it… fit my head very comfortable like a little scoop!

I have an oval head, but I find in terms of ventilation my CO AYR8 is better than the old velvet helmets; the OneK (oval) is better than the AYR8; the Ovation Schooler is the best (maybe even a bit better than Tipperary, but it’s been a while since I had one of those as they didn’t quite work on my head after they changed it). In the summer here in FL I rotate between the OneK and the Ovation. I have the OneK with the built in sunglasses, so I use that on dressage/hacking days and the Ovation the rest of the time!

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but how well does a One K helmet compare to a Samshield? I am in the market for a new helmet as well since my CO GR8 has oxidized on the snap to the point that it no longer snaps and on the front emblem. :frowning: Plus, it is super hot here in GA and it is not really comfortable in this heat.

I live in South Florida and it’s DAMN hot and humid here. I have a OneK with the sunglasses and it’s ok, but I still have sweat running down my face into my eyes.

I love my Ovation schooler. I got a Coolmax liner for it and I have to admit that I forget it’s on half the time because it’s so cool. I do wish there was a bigger visor/brim for it, though, but it’s lightweight and cool. For those that feel it’s too “perched” on their head, try a bigger size; you can adjust the dial in the back to tighten it. I wear a M/L and I don’t think I have a big head, but this was the only way to feel like it’s protecting me well.

They also have a long oval shape for those with less round heads (or lots of hair!). I have the round, and it fits me great, even though the GPA is a bit too round for me. I do agree it fits more like a Charles Owen, but if you are too oval for that, maybe try the One K long oval!

I didn’t know they came in a different shape! Interesting!

I think you can only get it in the black color, but it’s out there!

I have a tiny round head and absolutely love my Uvex and just got a close out GPA Speed Air through Beval that is nice and cool. I’m in SoCal and it is hot and unseasonably humid. I school in the Uvex and show in the GPA, can’t really tell a difference between the two.

I used to fit in a CO but when I could afford a new helmet, I got a regular samshield, and found it to be very cool! GPAs and OneK dont fit my head. Sounds like you really should just go try stuff on!

OneK, man. I just reviewed my new Defender, with lot of photos: https://ridingwithscissors.com/2016/07/29/a-helmet-breakup/

I too was wearing a CO, but this is so so so much better, especially in the Texas heat.
