I’ve seen the Standlee compressed Timothy. I was hoping for some chopped Timothy - like their alfalfa as per 4Leaf - with a little “earl” (oil) to tamp down dust. Never heard of Flack. Will check it out - but probably not available in Tx. I just bought my first bag of Triple Crown Safe Starch Forage. It’s nice. I did find two clumps of mold (tossed) and a rock in it so far. It’s not dusty. To add: It was a decent size rock. Wonder what I paid for it weight-wise.
I wish I had Triple Crown products available closer than 1.25 hours away from me. Sadly, all of the small/local feed stores have either closed or no longer carry it.
My senior is LOVING the chopped alfalfa by the way! And I’m enjoying feeding it without sneezing or watery eyes or itchy nose!
4Leaf - glad the chopped A is working out for you and your horse. Having Arabians - and having lost one due to complications of an Enterolith - I’m hesitant to feed it. Unless I could mix it with something. The TCSSF is not cheap for 40 pounds. For now I’m mixing it with the Ametza compressed Bermuda - now wearing my mask. My local feed stores don’t carry the SSF. Well one does - 45 minutes away - for $22. One far south of me sells it for $20. Fortunately I have someone who lives there / can do p/u for me.
Our local Tractor Supply sells the Lucerne Hi Fiber Chop - the one with added molasses. It seems no feed store within 100 - maybe 200 miles sells the Hi Fiber Gold. No molasses but instead oil and supposedly low sugar/starch. I’d be very interested in that. I wonder why Hi Fiber Gold is now so difficult to get? You would think it would be a top seller. Anyone know?
Standlee does have an Alfalfa & Timothy Chopped product (with the oil like the straight Alfalfa), but I don’t know the %alfalfa/%timothy per bag. Why they don’t offer the Timothy (or Orchard Grass) chopped by itself, I don’t know. Seems to me a lot of people would use it (especially those with seniors like me)…

My TSC does carry a Hi Fiber Chop, but its Manna Pro brand. And it is Timothy, Oat and some Alfalfa. I’ve never fed oat hay and honestly don’t know anything about it. But this product is very low in protein (9%). It uses the molasses like Standlee uses the oil to keep the dust down.

At the prices for the chopped hay products, I’ve seriously considered tying to put compressed or even regular hay through a paper shredder or using a heavy duty paper cutter to “chop” it to save a few $$$s!
Thanks 4 Leaf. I’ll be making some calls tomorrow re: Standlee alfalfa and alfalfa/timothy chop. Also the Lucerne/Manna-Pro Hi Fiber Gold. BTW how long would you say the pieces of hay range in the alfalfa chop?
Crossing fingers and toes I can get one of the above three.
Horsey and I are loving the TC Safe Starch Forage.
I want to find something like it - just in case…little to no dust.
@grayarabs it’s pretty fine. I’d say nothing over an inch long? But most of it is really thin and tiny. And its all soft. My senior is really loving it - he’s cleaning the ground under his hay like he used to, so that he gets every last little bit of it.
