One of mine has a Mohawk, but I do the Fijord thing and taper it down to his poll and withers. I also round the edges so it doesn’t have sharp corners. He doesn’t have a thick neck, but looks super cute with his Mohawk.
RPM, I love you for the Last of the Mohicans reference
Personally I only like roach/mohawk on a horse or pony who has that really thick mane. It works for them.
I am not a very adept braider and I learned well enough to braid for shows! Really not too hard, it only takes me 30 minutes or so now. And I’m not great with picking up that kind of thing!
I CAN braid well enough, I just despise doing so, and would much rather not.
Anywho. Here’s the updated 'hawk: Muddy Mohawk. The longer pieces at his withers got trimmed after the photo. He also got a bath, much to his dismay. He worked so hard getting filthy and I rinsed it all way within five minutes.
I love the fact that the breed standard for Fjords is the “mohawk.” It has saves me countless hours of braiding for dressage shows and horse trials. It is one of my favorite things about Fjords.
