[Very] Long Vent: Terrible Customer Service at Voltaire

Wait…wait…you’re acting like all of this is a SURPRISE to you. Have you not read any other thread on the COTH forums, ever? LOL.

And I’m a biddy, btw. Not bitty

What I find most amusing of all is that people PAY to be a walking billboard of some commercial logo to begin with . . .

Well excellent. You’ve all crashed Voltaire’s website ordering this damn hat so now I don’t even get to see it.

IME, goods made in China vary WIDELY in quality and it is entirely possible that 1 batch is not the same as the next.

OP - have to agree that the original email was way too snarky! Voltaire’s customer service should have just been to forward you their return policy - and just keep doing that until you did return it/them. So, yes, they over-reacted as well. The rest was just escalation.

IMO experience in customer service - try working as the control room manager in an electricity lines company in the middle of a major storm if you really want to see/hear sheer stupidity! But the best ever response I heard was from one of my operators 3 days into a storm event. Think rolling power outages, managing field resources out in the storm, off-the-cuff decisions as to priority when he took a call that was meant for me. I was busy handling media enquiries at the time. I just hung up to hear him say very politely “Okay, now how do you spell that?? … F U” and the phone was disconnected at the other end. You can all immagine exactly what he was asking them to spell

“Okay, now how do you spell that?? … F U” and the phone was disconnected at the other end."

lol!

Although places may say “the customer is always right” nobody has that as a hard policy. Until you’ve had someone bring in a 4yo microwave that they bought “last week” and scream that they’re going to have your job because not only is it coated in cheese on the inside but there is no box or receipt you wouldn’t understand.

This one made me tear up.

I’m witcha on dat!

I have one bball hat I wear. The guy who started my gelding gave it to me. I wear it and HOPE someone horsey will ask, so I can send business his way. I have no problems being a walking billboard. But I wouldn’t have PAID for the hat
FWIW, I like the color brown of the hat. Also, I think it looks like the one pictured on Voltaire’s website.
I thought the color of the hat on the website (concentrating on color as website pic’s too small to see other details) was somehow darkened, compared to the brown on, say, the saddle cover right under it.

But the hat in OP’s pic is exactly that same color! So no false adverts or anything, it looks exactly the same. Goodness knows what happened to the hat at Devon to make it like OP liked it, maybe it was put through the wash 35 times, but that’s hardly the company’s fault. The color OP got matches the color on the website.

I love my baseballs hats. Most have been gifts. Some are nicer than others. The ones I don’t like, I accept graciously and appreciate the thought that went into the purchase.

Had the OP been the one to purchase the hat and had it not been to her liking, that would be one thing. However, she forever ruined a lovely, thoughtful gesture from her bf. Even if she hated the hat and never wore it, what a nice thing for him to have remembered about and gone out of his way to buy for her.

At the very least, they could have had a cute story about the weird matching Trucker hats they got for Valentine’s Day.

Okaaay- when you are my age (49) you’ll throw one cap in the barn and one in your trailer and call it a day! I will say that I have received all kinds of nice treatment and upgrades by being polite to a fault. Once I was unhappy about the room they gave me at a ritzy resort, the ceiling was very low because it was an historic inn. The manager showed me a large suite with a gorgeous view, but I was concerned that it was out of my price range. They offered it to me at no additional charge. It was about $200 more a night

After seeing the picture, I totally understand what the OP means by “trucker hats.” I have a tiny head and can’t wear most ballcaps. The hat in question is quite tall and while it might fit around, for me to fill the crown up, I’d have to pull it down over my nose!

I googled for “women’s sized ball caps” and you can compare the shape to these:
http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Womens-Silver-Ridge-Ball/dp/B006ZRX4TQ/ref=pd_sim_sg_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1H8B8DCB7Y9SGZY7JN34
http://www.amazon.com/Baltimore-Ravens-Womens-Natalie-Black/dp/B00AMEWHOQ/ref=sr_1_30?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1392851786&sr=1-30&keywords=women’s+ball+cap

Assuming Voltaire really wanted to market hats, they might consider offering a unisex AND a women’s (or pea-headed-sized) model. But I suspect that’s not high on their priority list and I can understand why.

Thanks for proving my point.

Off to order a hat…

Ha! Thank you all for the entertaining responses. I appreciate all the feedback on what a terror I am, what a terror the CSR was, and what a terror I clearly must be to my boyfriend.

For all of you making vast assumptions about the type of person I am and the relationship I have based on this small clip-it of life are HILARIOUS. Really? I hope every stranger you meet extrapolates your every asshole moment out to every facet of your life.

I have repeatedly acknowledged the lowliness of my initial message. Move on, Ladies. I actually have to find synonyms for I’M AN ASSHOLE now. I get it.

I’m glad you have all so thoroughly dissected this conversation and have taken whatever position you have chosen in such enthusiastic ways. For those of you buying hats, I hope you have odd shaped heads. I guess this truly proves that there is no such thing as bad press.

As I said before, I am returning the hats. They were deposited at UPS this morning.

A few of you have had very well expressed points that I acknowledge as true and have made me think much more thoroughly about how I will handle situations like this in the future. Thank you.

To the rest of you: I am most thankful for you; you insulting, judgemental, and cross old bitties. I have learned more about terrible I looked in this exchange by looking at how terrible you look now than by what you said.

As a certain CSR would say,
Have a beautiful day.

And for those of you who wanted it:
I wish I had gotten a sideview before I packed it away.

I can’t believe I am wasting time commenting on this thread but I don’t even get the title… Why is it such “terrible customer service” since the company immediately refunded the buyer and sent a prepaid label…?
Yep, their “customer was right” (albeit very b*tchy) and they fixed it.
First world problem indeed!!
Grow up and let it go!

By the way the cap you received looks just like the one on their website. I have a small head so could never wear that style, but that wouldn’t be the retailer’s fault…

But you don’t outdo the customer in bad behavior.

Agree.
Hence a more appropriate title might have been “naughty behavior from saddle company.”

You are more than welcome. I can see by the rest of the above quoted post that I was not wrong in any assumption I may have silently made about your character or demeanor. My only regret might be that I didn’t state it publicly.

Does the OP have a Voltaire saddle? I’m guessing she does since having the hat is so important to her. I’m wondering how her experience was when she bought the saddle, it was probably a good one or else she would have mentioned it. I have to say that I love Claude. We purchased a saddle from him, that wasn’t even a Voltaire, and he was very professional, kind, and helpful. I have and will continue to recommend him to people. He is a great guy. and not for nothing, but have any of you called Verizon lately?! Now THAT’S poor customer service!

Wait, OP. You are the one who started all this by POSTING it on a PUBLIC FORUM. Then when people had the nerve to discuss (which is I think the point of the forums, conversation and all), and, shocking, not everybody agreed with you…you get mad?

Next time, don’t post your drama…then people won’t comment on it.

Looking at her past threads, the OP seems to have a fixation with trendy or expensive branded items.
