He’s listed as H or Horse on pedigree query and Equineline, if he was gelded it would be G
I genuinely do not believe they were. But I do think his suffering went on too long.
There must be codes like this put out by many organizations. Wouldn’t it be brilliant if rescues adhered to a common code? If breeders also had a common core they voluntarily followed. I’d feel much better buying an animal of any kind from people with a common code. Without, there is moral drift. Blinded by your own self importance or delusions, a shady path awaits and the animals suffer.
Just confirming that things aren’t black and white, we once took a colicing horse to the hospital thinking we could try fluids, etc., but that we didn’t want to/couldn’t do surgery. He was 4 years old and otherwise healthy. After examining him the surgeon told us that they had a 90% success rate on surgeries for colics like his. It was a huge financial stretch but we were able to do it, he came through with no problems (just gained weight on his stall rest, haha) and I’m so grateful we still have him.
Colic surgery costs have increased a lot. I had it easier when my mare had it done. I would never fault anyone for choosing surgery for an animal with a good prognosis, regardless of age. But that’s the key there. A good prognosis.
We had an unexpected windfall from a YouTube video starring our donkey that went viral (we made it for my grandmother, lol). A few years later, we were still getting royalties. Now, the amount was only enough to pay for some fence improvements (to benefit said animal-fair is fair).
We had to race him to the vet hospital for colic one terrible afternoon. The prognosis was poor. Some in my family wanted me to push it even though there was a 50/50 chance of survival and at least a month of painful recovery. I told my family absolutely not. I made the same decision as I would any of our animals.
When I first wrote care authorization letters for my two horses many years ago, I had some dollar amounts and some care restrictions based on chance of success. They were different for each horse. It’s important to think about both factors.
The horse that back then had authorization to go to the hospital if there was a good chance of total recovery, now has a hard no on surgery. A year ago it was sobering to have to actually say “We fix him here, or we euthanize.” to the vet.
Another update…
I hate to speculate but I feel like there’s a reason they don’t rly show his legs…
I think it’s obvious why they don’t show his legs. It would stir up even more outrage. I hate that this poor horse is being subjected to all of this. What is the point?
Where are they not showing his legs?
Is there any other way to link to the update?
When I click on external links to FB, it logs me OFF my FB and insists I log back in with my PW.
And yeah - it’s telling about the legs, though the whole thing is a travesty IMO…Poor animal.
I won’t give that woman any clicks. If one of us peeks and gives us a synopsis, that’s better.
He’s too heavy for the small animal water treadmill to run. So they lowered the water level in the horse treadmill and put him in there.
The vet explained the difference between swimming and walking in water. She also talked about the support they’re giving during growth spurts when bones and soft tissue aren’t growing at the same rate, and how that’s too much to expect an owner to do at home.
They show his legs almost the entire length of the video, in his stall, in the treadmill, and walking out of the treadmill.
They show his legs almost the entire length of the video (without any braces, while he lays down), in his stall, in the treadmill, and walking out of the treadmill. The shape and structure of his legs is very clear, as well as his ability to walk. They aren’t hiding any of that.
I clicked on the FB link (admittedly out if curiousity) & was redirected to my page
I guess I could get to her page, but I’ll just see what COTHers report so as not to give her any sort of Follower credit.
New update today. They put up some panels in the indoor for him to see other horses. He took a few walk steps (hard to judge with that), but he looks pretty bad to me.
They are saying he will be 1 soon. Dr U wants him to go home to KVS, but they want to keep watching him grow and he’s growing more than anticipated. Plus, she’s not sure what time and staff he will have at the farm.
They were looking for a friend for him, but are EXTREMELY picky. Since he grew, they said Bo MAY be able to babysit.
Still walking in water. They said he is still being walked and goes over ground poles.
I take back everything optimistic I said before. Today’s update was difficult to watch with that FL buckling
The video is very hard to watch. Reading the comments it seems like more than a few are asking big questions about his mobility. There were a couple times I thought he might fall with the way his one front knuckled under. I have doubts that he’ll be pasture sound.
Here’s a quick screenshot showing his legs
That screen shot is actually doing him some favors the latest video is awful. Time to pull the plug. He is ambling around at best you cannot call that movement walking. And when Dr Ursini tried to disguise his buckling as a excited buck I gagged lol
