Visors

These look really interesting! A bit pricey for me, but I am intrigued…

My problem with wide-brimmed helmets is they still don’t offer as much protection as a big visor. Yet I wouldn’t want to buy a helmet with a brim as big as a visor because I certainly don’t need it all the time.

I have the Equivisor and I wear it unless I am riding in the evening or on a particularly cloudy day. I love the additional protection for my face and eyes. The only times it has come off have been when my greenbean was doing his version of Airs Above the Ground. It was hard to say if the visor coming off had any additive effects to his acrobatics or not.

Try a hat cord- designed to keep a top hat from tumbling off whilst hunting, so it should have no problem keeping a visor attached. Doesn’t interfere with the fit of your helmet, and completely removable (unlike velcro, snaps etc on a helmet). The visor could still blow off your head, it would just hang off the back of your shirt until you set it right. May need to poke teeny hole in back of visor band to get the clip through. Easy enough to make if you can’t find one.

My Da Brim visor has a pocket that my helmet visor slips into. There is also elastic around the top of the visor, so you slip the helmet brim into the visor pocket and then pull the visor into place. I have never had it budge and I have done tons of riding with it. It is a bit pricey but my visor is 5 years old now and still looks basically new.

i never use my visor on a windy day or when riding baby horses

I had one of those big visors. I too, praised my quiet horse when it went flying. Never used it again and invested in the samshield visor. Now, it only works on the samshield (as far as I know), and it is conformed to the shape of the helmet and velcros in under the visor (if that makes sense?). There are little “dots” (screws? I dunno) that stick out a tiny bit on the side of the helmet and the visor caters to those and snaps on nicely and stays secure no matter what. I love it!

I looooooove my Soless Visor. I’ve found that it only falls off when I’m jumping, and once I got a clip for it I haven’t had a problem.
Sure, maybe it could fall off and spook my horse, but so could a branch falling off a tree. Maybe if I had more nervy horses I’d worry about it? I certainly don’t think they’re unsafe though - so long as they’re flexible and will bend if you hit the ground.

It’s also worth remembering that once upon a time ALL of our horses were desensitized to ball caps flying off.

So I remembered it’s called hide a helmet. They aren’t quite as snazzy looking as some of the visors but they work so well! I have gone galloping in mine more times than I should admit to without an issue.
Only problem is sometimes people yell at me that I should wear a helmet when riding. I have to remove the cover to prove that I am!

@StormyDay, how hot are the Hide A Helmet covers? I was looking at them on their site and see they’re made of felt and was wondering about ventilation.

I feel no difference at all. The felt isn’t very thick anyways, so I doubt it would really trap any heat.
