Voltaire and Concorde Semen

How is their fertility with frozen semen.

We have two Concorde foals from our Hamlet mare using frozen. Both were on the first try.

A friend of mine has a 2010 Voltaire filly out of a maiden Royal Prince mare. I believe it only took one try - seems I remember her saying she used her last dose of Voltaire frozen. She has also had a few other Voltaire foals in years past.

I watched an old video of Budweiser since he is the father of my 2 year old. They have a video of Voltaire on there as well… all I can say is WOW!

I never know how well Budweiser was bred!

I think the frozen from both is pretty good. You can always contact Jeanette Nijhof (stallion owner) via phone or email and she will give you honest answers on their frozen fertility. www.team-nijhof.nl.

I have a 3 year old Concorde filly. She was conceived on the first breeding cycle but it was with fresh semen before I imported her dam from Holland.

My black PINTO Voltaire son was on the first try!! It was the year he died too…we were really holding our breath!

Since a breeding to a Nijhof Stallion comes with a live foal guarentee, I am sure that Jeanette would only represent semen that was of the best quality!

With Voltaire you will need the LFG. His semen is notoriously bad. Two mares, 7 or 8 cycles over two years, and finally a baby. My repro clinic said they very rarely get mares preggy from Voltaire semen. Not sure about the Concorde.

Does the Mare need to be a Warmblood or do they accept TB?

I have used Voltaire frozen with success on first try.

Voltaire on first try with a maiden for us.

Concorde good- Voltaire notoriously bad. You will need the LFG- 7 cycles, 2 mares for one baby and repri clinic said it was the first Boltaire pregnancy they had in three years! Nijhoff will let you back up with one of their younger stallions.

“repro,” and “Voltaire” - darn auto correct

This surprises me; we have used the Voltaire semen on 3 or 4 client mares and all have taken on the first insemination.

We have used Voltaire semen in the past on my own mare and on client mares and all took using one dose of semen. He is known to have very good semen.

I also looked at the motilty and morphology of his semen when we bred my mare and it was good quality.

My mare also twinned on Voltaire semen…

I plan to use him on my Corland mare this year.

Jeanette from Nijhof is wonderful to deal with and will answer any questions you might have.

Interesting- I sent my mare to one of the most respected breeding facilities in S. CA and that was my experience. It was three years ago (I never tried again), but they told me when I sent the mare that they had no luck with Voltaire and to proceed at my own risk. Now, I will say that I do not still use the same clinic. So- who knows? Good luck to all this breeding season. I’m trying Numero UNO, so I could use the luck

Old Voltaire semen was bad. Then he got refrozen not too many years before he died and it is good.
Have to check the dates on the semen.

Imajacres- thanks for that information. I was most likely using the older semen. Good to know that the newer semen is good.

We have had good success with Voltaire semen have tried a few times with success on the first try.

We just had our second Voltaire foal born early this am, a filly we are thrilled with her and bred our mare using only part of a dose.

I don’t see Voltaire listed for 2012 http://www.team-nijhof.nl/pdf/Dekgelden-Team-Nijhof-2012.pdf

I was curious about the stud fee.
