Are you intent on the ‘stall’ being converted to the wash rack? Asking because, directly outside my barn doors I had a somewhat ‘natural’ sloping grade. I chose to make a large outdoor area washrack that I did use bluestone on, then ran interlocking mats on top edge to edge…the lower area where I ended the framing for the matted area, I had a 10x10 (about a foot deep) pit dug and filled with gravel…and a ground level deck put over that. It makes for no drain clogging. gives me a barn attached outdoor wash/groom/ tack/ farrier area, and a small deck for people and chairs . I guess I was saying think outside the box…I knew I couldn’t have an ‘interior’ wash rack, since I needed that area of the small barn. I love my set up, but of course in my head I thought ‘indoor wash rack’ per all the boarding barns I’d been at over the years.

I have limestone screenings with regular mats on top in my x tie area. Works great. I kept the natural slope of the ground, so water drains out the side of the shed & used a line of those landscaping edge bricks to help guide the drainage. I did it by myself, very easy. I didn’t use any fancy compacters, I didn’t care if it was perfectly level, but since I hose there regularly, it compacted itself quickly.
