I wonder how one of these would work https://www.google.com/shopping/product/13064438061376772335?rlz=1C1LENN_enUS465US465&biw=1366&bih=635&sclient=psy-ab&q=igloo+cooler+5+gallon&oq=igloo+cooler+5+hallon&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.85076809,d.eXY&tch=1&ech=1&psi=JyjQVJKDLcyYgwSG6YHIBA.1422927919433.3&ei=QSjQVIOUHoS4ggTd6oDgCw&ved=0COoBEKYrMAc[/QUOTE]
People have talked about them on here – if you can’t use the search function on the site just google something like ‘igloo cooler coth forum’ and it should turn up. I want to try them, too.

I use one of these for making our beet pulp daily. Of course the lid is screwed on tight to keep the heated water warm as long as possible. I can get my beet pulp pellets edible in about 2 1/2 hours with hot tap water, horses love eating the warm mush!
Never thought to try using one for a bucket to keep water liquid! Interesting idea, but you won’t have the correct floaty top to hold in heat. An acquaintance keeps the foil-sided bubble wrap on her water tanks at night, says it keeps them from having to run the tank heaters all the time.
So there are a couple of ideas for you!!

Just go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and get a sheet of Styrofoam (4’ X 8’) and cut a floating top. I did that years ago when the original Styrofoam tops either got broken or were so dirty looking and they worked out great. I probably still have some that weren’t ever used down in a cupboard in the barn.
I have several Wild Angel Cozys and have liked them for my sheep and goats. My mini horses will not leave a regular-sized bucket alone so I have to give them water in tubs, which I have to bash ice out of and refill daily.
I do not use the top thingy on the cozy because the animals won’t stick their heads into them, but the surround cozy works well enough to keep the water from freezing for a time. That’s all I ask in this weather. Just give me a few hours of no ice.

Here’s what I do:

It is a Coleman cooler, surrounded by hay/shavings, filled with warm water, and with a styrofoam floaty top. I have it in a corner of a run-in for my pony and donkey who are shut in at night. So far, it has stayed unfrozen each night. And since the styrofoam only covers half the water they figured out how to drink pretty much instantly.
We have DIY bucket cozies: wrap bubble tape around regular bucket, duct tape on. Inside buckets and outside tubs are all done the same. Definitely helps.
Strangely enough, my blanket destroyer (who has destroyed YET ANOTHER RAMBO) doesn’t rip his bubble wrap off. None of them do actually. But if they did, it’s very cheap to replace
