Poor Tiny - that’s no way to live. mazekeen needs stronger meds it seems. I feel for all of you - I remember when The Terror was in full spate at my house we had a few refugees under furniture and in small hidey spaces. I still say thank god for Prozac. It put the cat world back on its axis.
Happy Birthday, Bing!
I’m not a raccoon fan. They will kill your chickens and your kittens. I won’t have one on my property.
They also can carry rabies. I think it is illegal to feed wildlife, other than birds, in most every State.
I love this. They’re so polite! Your neighbor is a good man.
As cute as they are, it’s also not good for the raccoons. First, they are too fat. That cannot be healthy for them. Second, what happens if something happens to this gentleman? Would the raccoons be so dependent on humans that they would not be able to revert to their natural instincts on how to survive on their own?
For me, yes, help wildlife when you see an animal/bird hurt/starving. Supplement hay when deer have no forage due to continuing heavy snow cover. Call Marine Mammal Rescue when there is a sea lion in distress. Place bird feeders in winter when birds can’t get enough to eat. Etc.
Other than that, you are doing the wildlife a disservice in turning them into pets.
Getting down off my soapbox and returning this thread to happy, funny topics.
Signed,
A devout animal lover.
Yea, I wasn’t really posting it for people to be critical of him. I don’t know him but it seems like his heart is in the right place. The raccoons are really fat but better than starving, I guess. Anyway, Ms. Kitty enjoys his YT videos.
Sorry, wasn’t trying to be a downer.
We used to turn on sheep-dog trials for our dearly departed tuxedo Leia. She would sit right in front of the TV, reach up to the screen and bat at the dog as he moved among the sheep. She would not get bored with it. If the program was an hour, she would be glued there for an hour.
She also loved those Savannah cat videos. She had a particular favorite called “Savannah cats playing.” I had my laptop on the coffee table and one of her favorite spots was sitting next to me on the arm of the sofa. I would have to play the 7 minute video over and over for her until I would finally get tired. She, on the other hand, would have sat there forever.
Again, sorry for the serious detour.
It’s ok! I understand where you’re coming from with it all.
I love when I can find something on TV that the animals loves watching. Ms. Kitty also likes bird videos. She will look behind the TV trying to figure out where the things are flying off to. Bless her.
I think we’re going to need a video of that if you ever get a chance!
I’ll put it on the list! She is super precious. And she has the loudest purr, I love it.
He’s from here in Nova Scotia, Canada!
I’m surprised he hasn’t been outed by someone and given either a warning or a fine from the police. Nova Scotia is quite strict about feeding the wildlife.
Maybe his alternate name is the raccoon outlaw.
Lol, maybe! I have fed the coons around my neighbourhood a bit here and there, but not a steady diet of hotdogs and Oreos.
Actually all of the raccoons I’ve seen in Nova Scotia are quite fat. There’s a lot of garbage cans not shut securely and some of them have discovered how to open the heavy lids on the big compost bins.
I apologize as well for the derail. I was looking for cheerful kitty pictures but was shocked by the photos of the raccoons, which were not “cheerful pictures” at all.
Don’t try to pet the bison in Yellowstone. Don’t try to pet the Elk in Estes Park. Don’t feed the Bears. Don’t feed raccoons, especially with human junk food.
Leave the wild ones alone. Nothing good ever comes when people attempt to make pets out of wild animals. The wild creatures always suffer for it in the end.
This guy has definitely gone overboard. When and if he ever gets hurt or bit the coons will be reported to Animal Control by the hospital. I’m not sure if these ones would be candidates for trap and release in the back woods or not. If they are they would most likely find their way back to humans again and start bothering them to be fed.
The mama coon that was around my house was definitely used to being fed by humans and so were all of her yearly babies. This year I think she is gone, no evidence except for one of my neighbours garbage cans knocked over and strung all over the place. I think someone may have dispatched her or called Animal Control.
How about we get off of our soapboxes and get back to the original point of the thread? Cat pics.
