Wearing a fly mask on night turnout because.......
Should’ve mentioned vet checked horse when he had a fat eye from rubbing. No ulcers or other issues. This vet is an eye specialist also. May go back to Tri Hist and see if that works. This horse is known for skin allergies from pasture irritants. Thanks to all who freely recommend fly masks at night. I will keep a check on him.
My horses sometimes rub their faces on each other and if they are shedding heavily they get hair in their eyes. I have had this happen once or twice – always in spring, no obvious cuts or ulcers, and goes away on its own. A fly mask would help, and of course once their faces are all shed out they don’t tend to rub on their buddies either.

I make a point of using a quality fly spray applied to a small sponge, and carefully wipe ears, forehead, jaws , and a large circle around the eyes.

I dislike leaving facemasks on long term, as it’s just too easy for them to rub that into the eye.

And I have one tall one that’s difficult about head and ears. That one takes patience. :sigh:
