Wee little chainsaw?

Hubby bought me one for my birthday last year. It is a small Stihl. I think it is the MS170. It works great and hubby found it safer than some others as handles were better positioned for safety. I’ve used it quite a bit last year and need to get out there again this year.

The 193 continues to just perform. It’s a rockstar little saw. Put another 8 hours or so on it this weekend and just plowed through a ton of smaller stuff while Mr S worked the big saw on the larger trees. Did get to the point today where I exceeded the bar length and had to address something from both sides

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a light saw with some power. It’s really done SUCH a great job.

Next weekend I learn to take down trees. Won’t THAT be fun. Woooo!

We have the new Stihl Battery powered chainsaw and let me tell you, this is the best thing EVER! We also have a small gas powered and a LARGE gas powered, but that battery powered one is the nicest, easiest saw to use.

Little post script to this thread…

I used the saw nearly every weekend throughout the summer and continue to love it. It’s a great size and has a ton of power behind it. Cut up downed logs that were wide enough that they had to be addressed THREE times for each cut because of the short bar length, but the tradeoff for the light weight was worth it. Mr S would usually do those with the bigger saw, but wasn’t always available…

Finally got around to taking down my first tree last weekend. This is one that got struck by lightning in July and that blew apart a good section of it. Wind caused further delamination and the top finally snapped off in storm.

Here’s what we started with:

So I limbed the top part and sliced that up first. Then Mr S walked me through taking down what was left upright.

Made my cuts, wasn’t really sure they were all on the same plane. Cut the trigger. Pushed.

And BOOM. Fell exactly where it was supposed to. Cuts all lined up well. Took out some of my hinge, but not bad for a first timer.

And then got the rest sliced up and stacked.

I’m not one to shy away from tough tasks, but being comfortable with a chainsaw and taking down a tree is really not something I ever expected I’d do. Crazy how life goes!
