There aren’t many horses that hold up season after season at the very upper levels. Boyd is in a unique and very lucky position where he doesn’t need to bandaid them back together repeatedly, because he has many horses at that level. If it is too hard on them, as noted by someone else, he just moves them down the levels with his working students or their owners. Riders with only one or two upper level horses don’t have the luxury to move on to the next in their string, and many times go to great lengths to keep them going.

Thats one way to look at it.

I think that’s the disappointing thing about the separate single-sport “world championships” instead of the World Equestrian Games. There isn’t a united front, so they sort of become “just another big international competition” and the coverage ends up nebulous and uneven.

No way, look at better places for coverage. EN and Horse and Hound plus Equiratings all have great coverage so far.

I guess … but it seems to me that if there was a reserve available to use they could still have an individual compete, as well. Obviously it makes sense to those in charge to send the reserve home a few days before the competition starts, though!

I wonder if he purposely asked to leave early in order to be competitive at Maryland.

I wonder that only because I feel like in years past, we kept our traveling reserves close to competition site right up until the start. Maybe I’m remembering that wrong.

Same! But I guess it would make some sense for him to leave earlier to try to get the horse prepared for Maryland, once they’re pretty sure he’s not likely to be needed (even if a small possibility still exists).

Federman B is a new ride to Boyd still. He was competing FEI with his owner who passed away in a schooling accident since 2017.

They spent almost a quarter of a million on Blackfoot Mystery for BM and that horse was not around long at all.

4 or 5 years isn’t really that long when you see riders like the Prices have been eventing their horses for 10 years + FEI.

Bruno is only 12. And his previous owner / rider Annie Goodwin passed away last summer due to a riding accident.

Less than 8 hours until the horse inspection!

The time differential to the West Coast of the US is NOT conducive to watching live - though I did just “pony up” my credit card for the trial membership.

Anybody know anything about coverage of the jog?

Is there a XC map posted anywhere? When I am on the Pratoni sight they only thing they list are virtual course walks.

FYI - Don’t trust EventingNations “Ultimate Guide” for times. They already have it wrong. US Eastern Time for the jogs was listed at 8 am. They started at 7:30 am.
