Wellington Dressage Vacation Ideas???

I think all the team qualifying is over (via Pan-Ams, WEG, etc.). For countries like Canada who didn’t get a team qualified, it’s a race to get enough individuals high enough into the FEI Rankings to put a “composite” team together, and points from all CDIs help that.

Even countries with qualified teams don’t know who will be on those teams yet, so will be watching how their potential team members do to look for prospects for team selections. (Usually also linked to FEI Ranking.)

So riders will try to be on their game at all the shows![/QUOTE]

I think she is talking about selection trials, shows the selection committee is specially looking at for performance. This is common in eventing, but I am not so sure about dressage. I’m interested in the answer as well.

The poster did not specify selection trials, or for that matter a country for Olympic qualification, but for the US, the answer is the same as that I gave: they are looking at all CDIs.

Here is the USEF Olympic Qualifying memo:

Which is why I said “I think…” since I know she didn’t specify

So based off that link, this prize list link shows the some CDI dates.

Dumb question: what is the difference between a CDI and a National show.
I’m going to be there on a weekend that is listed as National.

CDI is Concours Dressage International, which is an International show recognized by FEI and counts towards ranking points. Riders have to enter with permission of their National Federation. There are many CDI levels that can qualify riders or teams for different FEI finals (such as World Cup, WEG or Olympics).

A national show is recognized only by USEF. Riders from other countries can still ride in it, but don’t get FEI ranking points. The judges can be at a lower level than in the International shows (“S”, rather than FEI-star rankings).

Also, regarding “shows” … it can be confusing if you attend these events because it all looks like one show with multiple rings, and National shows include FEI-level tests, too.

If there isn’t a CDI associated with the dates, then it’s “just” National, but often there are two shows on the same date, sharing the venue.

I am moving to Orlando next week and will be taking a drive down to Wellington also to watch. Also good to know there is a Dover.
