Regarding hotels around there, I think the hotel closest to Fence is the one where the previous owner had a no dog policy with a hefty fine. The hotel staff would wait until everyone was in for the night, then walk down the row of hotel room doors- working a squeaky toy! At least that’s the story I’ve heard.
I’m sure they made a lot of money with that ploy. But probably not many fans.
One and possibly two hotels are planned to be built on the White Oak Equestrian Center property itself; affiliation(s) not yet announced. The property is about 1,000 acres total, BTW. There is only 1 hotel in Polk County right now (Days Inn in Columbus), plus some B&Bs, but zoning was changed recently so that many Polk residents can actually rent short- or long-term their own homes or guest houses on their properties. Also being right near Hwy 74, it will be an easy drive to/from White Oak to Forest City and Rutherfordton for a few chain hotels.
Second huge barn now under construction at WOEC.
I heard they had tentatively acquired dates for almost every week between Aiken and Blowing Rock. If that is the case, Several HS managers have given up weeks.
Interesting! So do they expect to have horse shows at the new facility this year? Or next year?
I heard they wanted to have shows there this summer, but couldn’t make it happen. I expect they will be ready for lift off next year.

I too heard of tentative summer plans, particularly a July date, but I’m not sure how much truth that rumor holds. I’m truly curious as to what the finished facility will look like and what the plan will be for the surrounding developments.

Judging from the pictures, this does not look possible, but the prizelist looks legit. Any update? I know I recognized some COTH posters as show officials- anyone have an official word??

If they keep those dates, they will be in direct competition with the NCHJA Annual show. I am happy to see more NC shows and will definitely consider a couple of shows in Tryon next year.

The Young Horse Show finals I believe are being held here this fall. Website says Tryon resort and equestrian center…same place?

Edit: I just tried the link and it says the video has been removed- strange- I just watched it less than 5 minutes ago. Go to You Tube and search Tryon Resort, hopefully it will be back up. The plan in its entirety is pretty remarkable!
I heard the first week is cancelled as the show grounds are not ready, but they still plan on hosting the remaining weeks.
