WEP members building new international equestrian development in Tryon, NC

I hear this week has been going wonderfully so far. Great footing, beautiful facility. Although not yet finished, it seems many people are excited and pleased to be there so far!

Does any one know much about the plans for developing surrounding horse farms?

Believe it or not, due to an odd layout of postal zones here, the new facility actually has a Tryon mailing address - as do all other businesses and residents in that area - so it can legitimately lay claim to the name. And of course Tryon is much better known in the horse world than “Pea Ridge.” (And at least it’s in the same state, unlike the “Links of Tryon” golf course that’s actually in Campbello, South Carolina!)
Actually, according to the website, the address is Mill Spring, NC.

Is the place done enough yet that there are actual photos of it? Pretty much everything I see in that video that represents the facility itself is a computer generated model or a snap shot of some generic stall front/spa/pasture/fence/etc.

Below is a link to the Tryon Daily Bulletin coverage of the announcement last week: some people pics but scroll down and you’ll find a couple show ring and barn shots. I’m sure it looks different already as fast as they have been moving on it.

Well the darn link wouldn’t work but you can go to www.tryondailybulletin.com and use their search for “Tryon Equestrian Center” and it will call the story up.

Wow, you’re right. Last week it was Tryon! It’s a very big property, 1400 acres, that fronts 2 main roads, Sandy Plains and Pea Ridge. The address up to now has been on Sandy Plains and that’s a Tryon mailing address, but the entry to the equestrian center and the show office is on Pea Ridge, which is a Mill Spring address. So I guess now that the show grounds and office are open they switched the mailing address there. Who knew…

Sigh, shame the hotel and resort area won’t be completely finished till 2017. I was totally willing to postpone our wedding till then but SO wasn’t having any of that :frowning:

Actually the Hotel is supposed to be done in 2016 - the one pictured in the video that overlooks the show grounds. It’s the smaller Spa/Resort that will come later. So tell the SO it’s not so bad after all

Need some hotel/accommodations upgrades in the area for the working stiff horse folks…we get used to the well priced Comfort Suites type places near other show grounds. The good ol’ Days Inn Columbus ain’t cutting it. I know there are other options but I’m thinking it would nice if there were some options that were a little more budget friendly…ah, if wishes were horses.

Forest City, Rutherfordton is about 10 min away and has a couple hotels that aren’t to bad.

I wish Mark would have taken consideration and not charge so much for stalls and not charge a ship in fee. This would also be a great time to try out a weekend stall options(lower rates) for riders who work during the week but show on the weekends.

The hotels are probably going to charge at least $300 a night, which also is bad for riders who work for a living but not make the six figure and up salaries. I wish he wouldn’t build super luxury hotels/spas and just keep it modest. Quality doesn’t mean super rich stuff. I’m concerned that it’s going to be another Wellington as in only the super rich can afford to show and the rest of us are priced out.

Interesting!

Regarding hotels around there, I think the hotel closest to Fence is the one where the previous owner had a no dog policy with a hefty fine. The hotel staff would wait until everyone was in for the night, then walk down the row of hotel room doors- working a squeaky toy! At least that’s the story I’ve heard.

I’m sure they made a lot of money with that ploy. But probably not many fans.
The hotel on the grounds at Conyers is a major fail in the same way; they don’t allow dogs, enforce the fine, and they don’t start breakfast until 7 a.m. No one stays there.

Are they posting results online?

Looks like turnout was low. Hopefully the next two weeks will pick up!

So, somewhat off topic, but does anyone know of a horse friendly development in the area that offers 10 to 20 acre or so lots? I was recently very disappointed by a local real estate developer, who showed us a new development with CETA and FETA trail access, who has had a “change of plans” and is now not allowing homeowners to have horses in his development.

The developer was less than honest with us, after I went to the time and expense to make two trips to Tryon to view his so- called horse oriented development. To say I am pissed off is putting it mildly!

My Mom drove over there today and practically had a religious experience. She said the facility is already beyond lovely-all the good stuff from PBIEC but with more space/better planning (and of course for her, the benefit of being an hour and a half from home) I’ll try to get some photos up on my blog tomorrow.

I think this will ultimately wind up being a more budget friendly option long term simply because they are able to plan the development of practically the entire area from the ground up with a specific purpose in mind rather than having to work around the existing infrastructure of a place like Wellington (and jumping through the hoops that come with it) In fact, IIRC, making it more of an inclusive experience has been one of Bellissimo’s stated goals for the facility. We’ll see what happens, but I personally couldn’t be more excited.

If anyone knows of a horse friendly development in the area with farm lots for sale, please send me a PM. It doesn’t have to be in a development, in fact, I would prefer no HOA or very light regulations.

How much do the cabins run for a week? I can’t seem to find pricing

I just sent you a PM with some info and if you respond to me, I’d be interested in knowing who the developer was you talked to. His development must be near me and I’m curious who/what it might be. Thanks and I hope the info I sent is helpful to you.
