I bought an inexpensive Abetta Endurance saddle this Spring to use for my young horse. Long story short…it fit him perfectly back in Feb but shortly after that he lost a lot of weight running (young stallion) and then of course the saddle no longer fits in the shoulders. Fast forward to now and he’s put some weight back on (and has been gelded) but it still is too wide for his back.
I’m not used to western style saddles at all thus my question is can I realistically get this to fit or am I screwed and need to find something else to trail ride him in? All I have on hand that has a prayer to fit him is a treeless dressage saddle. I want to get him back into light work if possible.
I’ve tried putting a thicker pad under it and I can tell that when I make it fit in the shoulder and wither, it’s now bridging in the middle. Obviously not good…so my request for advice. Does anyone know something that might work to get this saddle to fit him well enough while he recovers his weight and topline? Any pad recommendations that will help with the bridging?
Thanks!
