WFFS

To my knowledge, Arabians are not testing for this. They believe it is a TB / WB problem.

I know several TK sires that have been tested.

On the WFFS spreadsheet for carriers - there is one TB - German sounding sire and dam and 2 Tk’s - both sires are N/N. This is not the whole population but it sounds like it is not widely spread in the TB or Tk population. No Arabs listed as carriers. They are closed books so that sounds reasonable. If Flick is patient 1 - how did the TB get on the list? We probably never will know who is but we may know who is not.

I think the warmblood industry felt they had to blame someone when their top bred and über expensive stallions - in regards to purchase price - suddenly turned up as being carriers of the WFFS gene 🙈 I.e. there’s quite a few of the Schockemöhle stock of stallions testing positive…

Right now WFFS testing is optional with the ATA. Any requirement has to be done as a change to the Corporate Regulations, which has to be done through member vote at the Annual Meeting. WFFS testing will be on the slate for discussion at the 2020 Annual Meeting.

Many stallions have been tested, and test results are (with permission) being published on the website under stallion listings. Thus far I can confirm that there have not been any Trakehners, tested through the ATA, shown to be carriers of WFFS.

Paper first published in 2020 but republished in Jan 2021 Equine Veterinary Journal https://beva.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/evj.13271.

I don’t think this study has been posted here. If it it has, I apologize for the repetition.

Could I get a link to the WFFS tests that have been processed? Does anyone know if Lissaro was a carrier? TY

Lissaro is not listed at all. Not on the carrier list nor on the N/N list. I know he stood at Celle for a while but I guess it was before they were listing the carrier status of their stallions.
