What am I gonna feed em?

Thanks for all the replies

Well, I have been adding ‘stuff’ to the kibble-first, I had a chicken breast that I had accidentally left out all night, so I boiled it, and shredded it. They each got about 1/4 and I have half left. They loved that for sure! Then I found some ham salad, [why does the small taste you get in the store always taste better than the half pound you buy]- gave them the remains of that, always buried under the kibble. Very. Happy. Dogs. Last night, I just fed plain kibble, and Snick didn’t eat his. It was in his crate, but can be eaten by not going all the way in. Well, I left the room, and suspect Toff ate it, as there was a fresh pile of dog mess in the cat room this morning! :o She NEVER asks to go out, acts like it is torture, but much worse when it rains. My fault for not putting her out last night, but it is usually not an issue.
Anyway, No they are NOT thin, Snickers has the problem with the leg, and the vet wants him thin. He is NOT overweight, but weighs a little more think than when I got him. I think I will add some pumpkin, and I have tried green beans, and apples, neither was a hit. But I can put some kind of small amounts of canned dog food into the kibble. I think I agree with guinea pig lady, maybe they just don’t want the same thing day in day out.
My only comment about the Purina stuff is what I read on the dog food advisor, about the horrors of crap they put in it, and how many true believers here ONLY feed the very best. I would think that feeding the equivelant of hot dogs and pizza wouldn’t be worth a few trinkets from the manufacturer.

You accidentally created a bit of a monster. While it is nice to mix things up, I think it is better done with snacks and not meals. Once your dogs get used to having toppings on their dinner you will get sucked into the constant battle of finding tasty toppings to lure them into eating.

I would separate them for feeding to ensure each gets their proper serving and give them a maximum of 15 minutes to eat. If it isn’t finished, simply put it up and try again at dinner. A dog will not starve and eventually will learn to eat what is put in front of him in a timely manner.

Good for you for running far away from Purina. That stuff is truly disgusting.

A lot of them feed Pedigree, Purina, etc… because they have a bunch of dogs and the high end stuff just isn’t cost effective. A lot of the big brands also have kennel coupons that drop the price per bag significantly.
And many people think dog food is dog food and don’t want to change.
My breeder friend thought her dogs looked great until she got one of her dogs back who was fed raw. I could pick that dog out of a crowd. Much shiner coat and bright white teeth.
She can’t really afford raw, but she did switch from Diamond and Pedigree to Purina ONE.
