What amenities are included in your board?

I groomed in a dressage barn where training horses were fully supplied by the barn. If the owner wanted to ride in a lesson instead of horse getting a training ride and we groomed and tacked the horse, we continued to use the barn supplies. If owner groomed and tacked, they’d use their own stuff.

Boarding I’ve always had my own stuff. Always been able to borrow a piece of tack or use some basic first aid supplies if needed.

Same here. I had no idea barns providing all that extra stuff existed. I knew there were high-end places that would tack and untack your horse, but that was it.

My board is 555.00 which includes is feeding and cleaning 2x daily. I have to provide my own feed which is about 200.00+ extra. Anything else, ie. blanketing, turn-out, or supplements is extra. That’s how it’s always been where I’ve boarded.

Having a barn that provides all that extra stuff would be nice, I wouldn’t have to worry about running out of stuff.

I board at a A-level show barn with full-training, unlimited lessons, and vet on-site. However, my situation is VERY unique.

I have my own tack fitted for each horse and myself. However, all tack cleaning, blanketing, laundering, packing for shows, unlimited turnout, medications/worming/supplements/sprays/etc., and first aid/rehab are included in board.

I lease two of my show horses out to the daughter of the trainer and vet. So, in exchange, all of my vet care, grooming, and showing is free. I provide a trailer for my horses, gear, and pay for my entry fees/stalls/shavings. They do the rest.

Its still expensive but I definitely have the peace of mind knowing my horses have the best of care. I literally never ever worry about them.

Where I board it’s pretty basic. He has a stall with a small run plus gets daily turnout, there’s one small covered arena to ride in that is underwater right now so mostly unusable, a new heated tack room with lounge area (still under construction), stalls cleaned 1x daily, fed 2x daily with either timothy or alfalfa, grain fed but provided by boarder and that’s about it. There are plans to put in a indoor wash stall; right now we have to bathe outside with a hose.

I board at a place that is principally a main ring Arab show barn. I am the lone dressage person and the lone boarder that shows their horse. The other boarded horses are either retirees or broodmares. My basic board includes use of indoor and outdoor arenas, stalls cleaned 2x day, grain 2x day, turnout on a rotating summer/winter basis. I provide all my supplies, tack, dewormer, supplements, and blankets and do my own laundry. When I travel to shows with the training side of the barn, they will clip and bathe my horse, pack all the communal things we use at the show like feed, hay, and bedding, and haul (for a fee) my horse.

For the other boarders, trainer has a program where they pay a higher monthly board but get full care including farrier and deworming and don’t have to provide anything except a halter, lead, and blankets/sheets.

For the horses on the training side of the barn, trainer provides all supplies and laundry for horses, deworms, holds horses for vet, chiro, and farrier, for a much higher fee of course. When my horse was in training with trainer, they did all the grooming, tacking, etc. I just got on and rode. It was nice but I really don’t mind doing my own horse care.

I often help them set up at shows just because I like to do it and will sometimes haul horses if we have a lot going to the show. Trainer will often give me some consideration for this either in kind or $$.

The absolute best part of this arrangement is that the trainer used to manage a farm with million $$ horses and still runs his barn like that. Even the plain old retired boarders get very fine care from an attentive horseman. I consider myself very lucky to be able to board there.
