What breeches are best for hot weather and low rise?

Just like ParadoxFarm and KingoftheRoad, I love the FITS Wunderbreech.

I wear them every time I ride. I have a week’s worth in the laundry right now:)

It seems odd, but they are so soft and absorbent they really do keep you comfortable when it’s eleventy million degrees and humid. No clammy breeches!

Also: no VPL and no chafing!

Wunderbreech FTW!

I just recently bought some of the Smartpak Piper breeches and really like them. They have the same comfort waistband as the TS, but with the stretchy leg bottom like the Ariats. They are pretty lightweight and definitely reasonably priced at around $80.

I third the callout for the FITS Wunderbreech, and recently also started showing in the Megan H/J breech. I had been riding in Ariats or Ovations for shows (sorry, can’t remember) but these are so much better. They have the same fabric as their full seat breech and the powerstretch panels for slimming (LOVE that). I tossed my other show breeches since riding in these!

I feel like a broken record but my absolute favorite breeches are the tuff rider ribbed schooling breeches. They aren’t the absolute coolest breech (edit to add, they are the coolest ones I own but I’m assuming there are more ‘technical’ fabric breeches for the heat out there) but they are really comfortable. I rode in them twice this week in Georgia heat and they were just fine. The fabric does a good job at camouflage for the lumps and bumps. My slightly large size fits slightly loose and is pretty flattering compared to legging style breeches. The only pair I have with holes is my smaller pair which is a bit too tight- only two tiny holes at the knee patches.

I’m going to go through my breeches soon and get rid of the ones with holes or that don’t fit, and if necessary I’ll be buying new ones, which will probably all be the tuff rider ribbed ones.

I am not a Kerrits fan generally (prefer my breeches to look like breeches) BUT I have to say that I tried on a pair of the “crossover” breeches the other day and the fabric is very lightweight and seemed cool! Did not actually ride in them so cannot comment on that. But they have a more traditional front zip styling and pockets and cute colorblocking.

I also constantly stalk eBay for the old Ariat All-Circuits - my local tack store actually has a few pairs still in stock - IMO that was the best ultra-hot-weather breech, at least for here in CA where we have dry heat!

I tried on a pair of the EC Coolmax side zips as well and liked them very much. Would have bought them except was looking for non-tan-schoolers and they only come in tan/beige from what my tack store owner told me.
The Ariat all circuits are the lightest weight. Wish they hadn’t stopped making them. trying to take very good care of the pairs that I own. But I love this thread and all the suggestions herein

I tried on the Tredstep Rosas a couple weeks ago and loved how light and comfortable they felt!

Thanks everyone for your experience. I will report back!

I have a pair of TS breeches called “Trophy Hunter Schoolers”. Low rise, side zip. I bought them on sale on the Internet a couple of years ago, but can’t remember where, and I can’t seem to find them. I love them in the summer, they fit just like Trophy Hunters, but are a much lighter fabric. I wish I could find some more, I’ve been looking.
Are these them but with front zip? http://www.beval.com/Products/Tailored-Sportsman-Trophy-Hunter-Schooler-Low-Rise-Front-Zip-Breeches/3222016.aspx
I like the way the regular TS Trophy Hunters fit - just hate them for summer.

So I bought the Equine Couture Champion Coolmax front zips. They fit similarly to the TS Trophy Hunters, just a little baggy in the front zipper area. They are definitely cooler than the TS. The material is a little “weird” - I am more of a natural fibers kinda girl, but I will be ordering more.

I’d give them a couple of months before ordering more just to make sure you like them. My daughter has some EC Coolmax jods, and the fabric pilled really badly and she finds them slippery to ride in.

Another vote for Tuff Rider Ribbed - I just got my first pair and I didn’t have any issues with feeling hot and I used them in 100 degree heat in Texas.

The ribbed material is actually VERY flattering and hides bumps, etc. Plus, I got my for less than $35 from Adams, making them super affordable.
