What can I do with the handles of my wheelbarrow?
I moved to the big plastic bin double wheeled ones years ago. Not sure why it took so long for them to come on the market. They truly are a “better mouse trap”.
Funny thing is I hate the double wheeled ones. I find them hard to manuver.

Yeah, I am so in love with my plastic 2-wheeler. So much easier navigating gates, and you can actually have something else in your hands while moving it around.

I’m just trying to figure out which part of your wheelbarrow you’re actually fond of, if the bin’s too heavy and handles are uncomfortable. Super special wheel axle?
It’s paid off!!

I’ve recently become enamored of pistol grip tape for various applications related to making everyday things less likely to cause hand fatigue or slip out of my tiny hands. Cell phone, tool handles, etc. – very useful.

It’s kind of a PITA to get your hands on (hah. pun unintended but I’m not deleting it) and isn’t super cheap, but it adds grip without adding bulk and doesn’t turn into a gummy mess over time like Vetwrap can.

I think that myself sometimes. But it wheels like a charm, it dumps easily, I’ve hit it with my truck and it didn’t crumble, and the handles are the perfect HEIGHT (back problems).

I will think about new handles, once I put my mind to the puzzle of what controls the height of wheelbarrow handles. Don’t want to mess with success.

Oh, and I LOATHE the two-wheeled ones! Considering we are both old and heavy, my wheelbarrow and I can negotiate very tight spaces and turns. The one time I tried (borrowed, thankfully) a two-wheeler I felt… well, whatever the opposite of nimble is!

While we are discussing wheelbarrows, does anyone have a good fix for the cross piece that goes across the back that keep the two standy-up thingys from collapsing in? The cross-piece to my favorite old wheelbarrow is semi-broken and one side won’t stay in the the slots of the standy-up thingys. The newer ones bolt on instead of going in slots. It is silly to buy a new one just because one part is broken.

I need to fix this so I need COTH wisdom!

Can’t really picture how the cross-piece attaches to the standy-up thingys, but you could probably cut some slotted bar stock to length. Drill a hole in the standy-up thingys and bolt to your bar stock?

I got the heaviest duty one that Lowes had about 11 years ago, weighs 90 lbs with metal bin and extra leg supports. I use it for everything from cement to manure to firewood and whatever needs hauled that will fit in it. The crosspiece started breaking it’s tabs off and I drilled a 1/4 " hole through it and put a little bolt in. Fixed. One wood handle split half off, I glued it back on. (Hickory) Now the wheel bearings are getting rough. I can fix them easy enough. With my bare hands the friction on the handle is OK for easy handling, with gloves on it’s slippery unless the gloves have friction enhancement.
