what do you wear to ride in?

For schooling I wear breeches and tall boots or half chaps, gloves, and an IRH or Troxel helmet with a t-shirt or polo shirt. I’ll wear jeans if I’m riding western but I always wear breeches when I ride english. I live in SoCal so that’s pretty much what I wear year-round, if it’s cold I may put on a sweatshirt or light jacket.

For shows I wear tan, puke, or rust Tailored Sportsman Royal Hunter breeches, I prefer the way the older style fits compared to the newer euroseats. I wear a Grand Prix coat and an Ariat or Tailored Sportsman shirt to match the coat, I have a few different colors of coats and shirts. Black or brown field boots, gloves, and an IRH helmet. I have a whole wardrobe of western show clothes too

oh my gosh, mypaintwattie- I just read your user name as “my pain twattie” rather than " my paint wattie" at first. LOL

Dont worry you aren’t the first to do that

Breeches, boots, belt, and usually a t-shirt or tank top for the summer.

I always have to ride with a safety vest lately, it is very hot so I put all my hair way up in my helmet so my neck is cool and the shortest sleeves or no-sleeves I can find.

This time of year (hot, humid summer):
Polo or fitted t shirt, typically any color/pattern/etc
Skinny jeans (usually), or sometimes breeches(TS, Smartpak Bradley, a few off brand/no brand), or regular old bootcut jeans
Belt, brown or black leather
Helmet (CO or Troxel), both black, hair up/with hairnet. I cannot stand having hair strands stuck to my sweaty face/neck!
Half chaps (old, faded, falling apart… but irreplaceable! lol) with ariat paddocks(brown), or Ariat or Grand Prix field boots (black)
Gloves (leather palm, crochet top) usually green, black, or natural/off white
Watch, as I lose track of time!
Black Intec XC vest, usually.

I just died reading this.

Summer. Irridean (or however you spell it) essential tights, half chaps, paddock boots, sports bra, sports top or tank top, helmet.
Winter. Winter weight tights, more layers. And of course my helmet!
I wear what I want because I don’t have to impress anyone!!! Yay!

for summer schooling:
-retired beige show breeches or darker-colored schooling breeches
-polo shirt (sleeveless in very hot weather), tucked in only for lessons
-paddock boots and half chaps or field boots for lessons
-hair net and approved helmet

for winter schooling:
-kerrits sit tight and warm breeches (the best winter breeches I’ve found)
-turtle neck or fleece long sleeve shirt
-sweatshirt for schooling, sweater for lessons
-vest or puffer coat for very cold-weather schooling
-winter paddock boots and half chaps (field boots won’t fit over bulkier pants/socks)
-winter riding gloves
-hair net and approved helmet

For showing:
-Tailored Sportsman beige breeches, worn with belt
-Essex wrap collar shirts (pastel for schooling classes, white for real classes)
-Grand Prix hunt coat (I don’t care for the new softshell fabrics. I’m a traditionalist and have 4 nice wool blends in colors that complement my horses)
-Field boots
-Roeckl synthetic gloves
-hair net and approved helmet
Did you read my mind?? Subtract the hairnet from summer/winter and change the brands for showing and that’s exactly what I wear.

Clothes that are the cleanest… they pass the sniff test… sniff they can/ can not be worn another day.

Breeches, paddock boots, half chaps, gloves and a t-shirt or tank top if it’s hot. I don’t tuck anything in–I don’t show and don’t like the way it looks on me.

When it’s cold out I just add layers on top–lots of polar fleeces.

Oh and of course my helmet!

On board for the sniff test. I keep mine at home, but I wear schooling tights, a polo or a tshirt , grudgingly a tank but never “in public” riding, paddocks, hair net, CO helmet.

Training for shows- insert retired show breeches and boots.

At Devon this year, I cringed when I saw people riding in bling halter tops looking a mess in schooling- but I’m old school…(and just old).

Moisture wicking golf polos, Kerrits breeches (love the phone pocket for safety!), tall boots
In the winter I switch to long sleeve mock turtlenecks, with either a quilt vest, a fleece, or my alpine barn jacket over.

Summer: Yoga pants, half chaps, tank top or polo, helmet. Gloves 50/50. Vest when I’m riding alone on a youngster. Phone strapped to arm with an exercise neoprene band in case I fall.

Winter: fleece breeches with half chaps, long sleeve T, vest or jacket depending on weather, helmet. Vest when I’m riding alone on a youngster. Phone in pocket.

If I am in public I wear very proper breeches, boots and polo – but at home, no one sees me so I go budget.

I’m a guy, we typically dress simply. Year round: Jeans, full chaps, ropers (lace-up cowboy boots). Summer: those very lightweight shirts fisherman wear (they dry instantly and are sun blocking); Fall: turtlenecks and sweatshirts; Winter: whatever’s warm, always turtlenecks.

Dudes have it so easy =)

I usually ride in a tank top or t shirt, half chaps/paddock boots or my tall boots, and schooling breeches/retired show breeches.

For lessons typically a nicer top or sleeveless polo.

It gets HOT and humid here very quickly (usually 85+ by 7 am) so comfort is my biggest concern. My newest absolute fave is this top from walmart. $6, forgiving of bulges (lol) and breathes nicely + wicks moisture.

I actually gasp wore this at a small schooling show this weekend. Heat index of 105 and jackets were waived. They needed someone to fill the novice jumper class so I hopped on in that. It was a last minute decision so I didnt’ really have time to change…but I didn’t notice any looks really.

Winter: ayr8 or speed air, depending on the temp
One of those 1/4 zip sport shirts
Ariat down jacket
Scarf
Sometimes an underarmour shirt
Ts or pikeur breeches
Tenneys half chaps and Ariat paddocks
Ts/similar belt
Summer:
Speed air
Eis shirt or polo
Ts/ pikeur breeches
Ts belt
Half chaps and paddocks
(When the barn is gone at a show that I’m not at, I admit I’ll wear a tank top)
Shows:
Speed air evolution (I have a new evolution for shows and a old speed air from 2009 as y schooling helmet)
Eis shirt
Ts belt and ts or piekurs
Parlanti Denvers

That’s a great jacket!!
They were selling them at Costco - I seriously LOVE this jacket for riding - they need to sell the same one at tack stores.

Its close fitting with princess seams, has a zipper pocket on the outside of the arm for my cell phone (zipper hand pockets as well). High collar and it has a vent across the back from shoulder to shoulder. It breathes while cutting wind - it has long sleeves that stay down (thumb loops if you want to use them).

Its my “riding jacket” I have a black one, wish I bought more! Might have to see if costco is still selling them (looks like they are on ebay).

(oh, and I live on the foggy Nor Cal coast - this jacket is my SUMMER and winter wear! - just under a down vest for winter).

This is about perfect.
I come right from teaching school to the barn, and usually right from the barn out to do whatever errands before going home.
For Home Riding:
jeggings (easy to transition to whatever else i am doing after the barn)
or breeches if i am going only to the barn and home
tshirt or tank top. My polos are reserved for schooling shows, clinics, hunter paces, etc.
sportsbra (duh!)
helmet, gloves, field boots or boots and half chaps
for colder weather i just layer on the fleece and down.

I am in the middle of QH blinged-out cowboy world…by keeping the english apparel at a minimum i can escape attention. (although you should have seen the looks i got the day i wore my plaid breeches to school in. ha!)

For shows I’ll pull out the stops and name brands…but i just don’t see the point and don’t have the budget to do so at home.

Even during hot southern summers, I’m always wearing a polo or a neat t shirt (usually from Target). Tan or light colored breeches (Ariat, tuff rider, ovation) belt, ariat tall boots, black gloves, hair net, and my CO AYR8 helmet.
