what do you wear to ride in?

Summer: Wide strapped tank or t-shirt (sometimes if it gets hot riding I will roll the t-shirt sleeves), dark brown light fabric breeches, paddock boots, & half chaps.

Winter: Same as above but thicker socks, my winter riding gloves, sometimes a thin “puffy” vest with a warm jacket over it… sometimes just the jacket. On super cold days I will also layer a regular t-shirt over a long sleeve t-shirt.

For lessons I put my hair in a bun on top of my head with no hair net. At shows I wear a hair net. Of course in both situations I wear my helmet.

You people kill me! I wear breeches - the dirtier the better, because I like them stretched out. If they can stand on their own, even better! I wear T-shirts that have been downgraded to “barn shirts” and have a stack that I have cut the sleeves off of and the neck out of, so my sportsbra usually shows out the arm hole. I always wear Zocks on the outside of my breeches and they are usually faded and worn. Oddly enough, I do always wear a hairnet and gloves. LOL!

Tank top/polo shirt/sun protective long sleeve shirt depending on the time of day and amount of sun. Breeches or tights always. Crazy socks from target. Tall boots. Hair in a hair net, gloves. Sunscreen unless the lesson is after 5pm in the summer

Its really a never ending tread isn’t??
Coming to the point, I normally used to have different kind of wearing in different season like
In Summer–
Lowest Jeans, trousers, Full flexible shirts

In Winter
Some cute skirts made of up woolen, shirts and all,

And in my home I only used to wear pajamas

Summer:

–Old show breeches
–Tank Top (varying styles…my new favorite has become these [URL=“http://www.championusa.com/workout-clothes/outlet/womens-outlet/womens-outlet-tops/champion-authentic-jersey-womens-tank-top?cm_vc=SPZ1”]…I have 6 of them now! Got them for $13/each!! OMG they are on sale now for $10…must resist buying the three colors I don’t own…)
–boot socks
–half chaps or occasionally tall boots.
–always a hairnet under my helmet. always. I cannot stand loose hair!
–Champion sports bra. I have not found a better sports bra for my gals!
–schooling gloves w/ the crochet back
–belt - usually cloth, fun, bright colors

Winter:

–old show breeches or old jeans (I really need to invest in some jeggings for this)
–Under-armour mock turtleneck for really cold days (I use this for cold shows under my show clothes as well)
–thick socks
–half chaps or tall boots
–other layers depend on how cold it is. Winters are pretty mild here in south Louisiana but I’m a wimp and like to bundle up. Usually the most I ever wear is UnderAmour, sweater and a short scarf.
–leather gloves

Shows:

–Tailored Sportsman or Tredstep breeches
–dark charcoal grey Ariat jacket or light grey RJ Classics jacket (usually use the light one for summer and dark for winter)
–complimentary colored long-sleeve show shirt.
–black belt or nameplate belt

I ride in my backyard and live out in the sticks so no one sees me when I’m out riding. So I mainly try to be comfortable. It’s disgustingly hot and humid right now. :frowning:

Summer: Cheap ribbed breeches. My favorites are black but I do have 2 in dark tan. I really like the cheap Champion T-shirts from target that are back in the sportswear section. They breath and don’t hold in the sweat. Mountain horse zip up dress boots.

I used to ride almost exclusively in those ribbed tank tops and jeans with half champs until I video’d myself riding a greenie and was aghast at the display of cleavage. Hubby liked it, but I’m not wearing those to the barn anymore! I ditched the jeans after I wore through the seat of my saddle.

In the winter I wear under armor cold gear under my summer breeches or sometimes my fleecy kerrits breeches plus a fleece jacket and LL Bean barn coat and scarf that comes off when I start warming up. Mountain horse ice riders with toe warmers and Smartwool socks.

In spring, summer and fall, I like Irideon Cadence tights, with a short-sleeved or sleeveless polo, and my tall boots and Tipperary Sportage. I’ll add a vest with no lining if I need a little extra warmth and a long-sleeved shirt. I like fun gloves, have a pair of leopard-patterned ones that I love. I find the mixed polyester/cotton golf polos with some texture and an open collar are the most comfortable. I don’t like those slinky synthetic summer riding shirts that Irideon and Kerrits make–they cling.

In colder weather, in the unheated indoor, I wear Irideon Windpro tights, a UnderArmour or similar type shirt and different layers on top, depending on the weather. I mix and match among a light down vest, fleece quarter-zip shirt and a synthetic down parka that is supposed to be used as an underlayer but I wear on top. Winter riding gloves (prefer SSG All Weather gloves or leather riding mittens if it’s really cold) and either my regular tall boots or pair of Treadstone winter boots.

Sports bra always (raceback halter style, otherwise the straps are always slipping down).

Yuck, don’t remind me of the colder weather…

Whatever top I have on that day(t-shirt, tank top etc), skinny jeans(if I’m coming straight from school) or breeches(if I’m coming from home), paddock boots(ariat), half chaps(also ariat), and a helmet(CO)

Summer:
-Jeans or FITS breeches.

  • T-shirt or tank top.
  • IRH helmet, hair in a pony tail and hanging free cause I’m too lazy to put it up, and a bandana.
  • Baby blue crochet back gloves.
  • Ariat tall boots.

Winter:

  • Jeans (long johns wont fit under the breeches)
  • Wind river long johns.
  • Long sleeve shirt under a t-shirt.
  • One or two zip up hoodies depending on how cold.
  • Mountain Horse jacket or puffer vest.
  • IRH helmet.
  • Winter riding gloves.
  • Ariat tall boots.

I didn’t read the responses, but to answer the OP…

I ride at a very relaxed boarding barn that mainly has Western riders. There is no instructor there, and I currently am not in lessons with anyone, so I’m extra relaxed right now, too. That being said:

In the Summer:
-Helmet
-Gloves (if I can find both of them)
-Breeches or schooling tights
-Paddock boots
-Half chaps
-Usually a regular old t-shirt, but occasionally a tank top if it’s super hot.

In the Winter:
-Helmet
-Ariat headband/ear cover thing
-Roeckl winter gloves I got as a gift a while back (love!)
-Long johns upper and lower
-Winter breeches
-T-shirt, flannel shirt, wool sweater, winter coat
-At least 2 pairs of socks with the outer being wool
-Paddock boots
-Half chaps.

…And as an aside, since I’ve seen threads about this: Despite the relaxation in my dress, I still always groom my horses very thoroughly before working them. I don’t get down on anyone for not doing so, but I personally feel like the horse comes first and should always be well taken care of.

Summer:

  • Short sleeved polos (I get American Eagle polos for cheap on ebay but also will use Asmar Equestrian and Ariat) or sometimes a regular t-shirt (if it’s really hot I prefer the t-shirt).
  • Riding tights, breeches or jeggings depending on how hot it is.
  • GPA Extreme Helmet (ventilation, yay!)
  • tall boots
  • Sports bra with a regular bra underneath

In the spring/fall I may wear a polo over underramour or a polo underneath a sweater.

Winter:

  • Underarmour underneath whatever shirt I want, sometimes flannel or a t-shirt
  • Jeggings or jeans with tights or underamour underneath, winter breeches, or regular breeches with tights underneath
  • Hoodie + winter coat
  • Roeckl winter gloves
  • Charles Owen Gr8 Helmet (love this thing in the winter)
  • tall boots

I prefer riding in tall boots for the support. While I used to just do paddock boots and sometimes half chaps, it’s no longer my preference.

Summer schooling
Breeches
UV-protective long-sleeved shirt (I traded up from T-shirts and polos this summer in the interest of not looking leathery any sooner than I have to) – two from Dover, two from Coolaroo
Paddock boots/half-chaps, unless I’m getting ready for a show, in which case I wear the tall boots to get used to them again
Hairnet
Charles Owen AYR8, with a sun visor attached when it’s not too windy
Gloves, when I remember

Winter schooling
Breeches
Long-sleeved T-shirt
Thinsulate vest
North Face Windwall jacket
Paddock boots/toe warmers/half-chaps
As it gets truly cold I ditch the half-chaps and bust out the full chaps and may also add Kerrits Tattoo half-tights.
Helmet (with fleece over-the-helmet balaclava when the cold gets really bad)
Heavier gloves
Man, I hate winter.

Summer: Old polo or t-shirt, ancient breeches, my awesome used Vogels and an IRH helmet.

Winter: Tons of layers, Kerrits Sit Tight n Warm breeches, either my awesome used Vogels or cheap but great Tuffrider Tundra fleece-lined boots, IRH helmet.

Caveat: My horses are at home. You can see me from the road, but it’s a fair distance.

Always, every single ride, no matter what:

Boots
Breeches
Helmet
Gloves
Road ID

In the summer, I wear a hairnet under the helmet. In winter, I use a bandanna to keep the wispies away from my face.

I’ll wear a polo if I’m going somewhere someone is likely to see me. Otherwise it ranges from tank top to heavy sweaters and a parka.

I’ll wear a belt when I remember (or I’m making sure to bring my phone with the belt loop!).

Oh, and as for the sniff test, I recently got a pair of Kerrits off TOTD in chocolate. Love 'em. I can wear them for days running and one knows they’re filthy.
