What is a 32cm tree on a Prestige Hunter D fit like?

I am looking for a 4.5" or slightly more, at the tree points. I have been looking at ads on Prestiges and see measurements on 32’s and 33’s that are all over the place. I was under impression a 32 was usually a 4.5, a 33 was a 4 3/4, a 30 would be a 4"…

Are these personal ads? Because I wouldn’t trust their measurements…depends on how they’re measuring. I have a 32cm Versailles and it’s narrow on some horses. Prestige is pretty good about sending out demos, or knowing someone in your area who is trained to fit them.

I have a Prestige Hunter D that is a 33 (32 originally and then adjusted to 33 for previous owner). I can try to measure later when I am in the barn, but I do know that when I get measurements from people, I try to get them to take a picture too so I can see what they are measuring. The Prestige at least has the “dots” underneath so there should be no confusion over where to measure. I had an Amerigo on trial that I got from CWD’s used saddle seller and they had given a totally incorrect measurement (it was actually 1/2" narrower than they said)-- very frustrating as I paid shipping back and forth and expected them to at least be more accurate. But with random saddle sellers, unless you see a picture, you don’t know what they are measuring. I’ve had some measure from the dee ring on the outside front to the other dee ring! Yeah, 8 inches or whatever they came up with, that would be pretty darn wide!

I’ll give you a measurement on mine once I can check it later. Good thing is, you can always have them adjusted, so if it is close, that is an option!

Prestige saddles will measure (and fit) differently depending on whether they’re foam or flocked. Typically flocked gives more wither clearance.

^^ what she said. I had a 33 foam prestige and it pinched, whereas my 4.5" antares is plenty wide.

I did have a 37 cm Hunter that I bought for my wider guy, and recently sold it. It measured 5" dot to dot. I’ll try to remember to check my 33 tomorrow!

I measured my 33 cm one tonight and it is 4.25" dot to dot. Kind of surprising as that is narrower than I thought. I use it on a horse that previously went in a med tree Stabilizer with skidrow panels, and pretty well stuffed…he’s lost muscle and top line from being off for injuries and this Prestige fits him well.

This, for sure. But VTO Saddlery gives some good general guidelines for how the various tree widths fit, and I agree with their appraisal (within the limits of how the panels affect the fit):

“For tree sizes, 33cm and 34cm are considered “medium”. For a saddle that will be used on a variety of horses, 34cm seems to fit most horses very well. 32cm is for a horse with withers and a medium to narrow back. It will fit the typical TB type horse well. We have rarely seen a horse that will take a 31cm, and we have never fit a horse narrower than 31cm. 35cm is considered “wide”. 36cm and 37cm are “extra wide” and we have fit several horses for these sizes.”

I have a 32 cm foam prestige that fits my guy great, he is dutch/hano but has narrower thoroughbred type withers. Unfortunately it is at home and I’m at school or I would measure it for you, but I would definitely consider it a medium-narrow tree. I can’t use it on anything that is a medium/medium wide fit as its too narrow so unfortunately it is basically limited to my own horse.

Hummmm… well after all this and talking to VTO and reading up on it and staring at rest of panels, we decided to go with this saddle. the panels themselves are very roomy, and we will go into it knowing we will likely need to get tree adjusted out to the 34cm at least. Pony is broad in back but high in wither… its is so weird that there are so many 32cm Prestiges out there!
