What is Capsaicin?
Jse writes, YankeeLawyer - Ridgeback is full of herself isn’t she?
I didn’t even go back and read her responses to what I wrote in the McLain thread yesterday cause it wasn’t even worth it."

:lol::lol::lol:hmmmm now who is full of themselves…:lol:
Please tell me:
How does that comment make me full of myself?
I meant I wasn’t gonna waste my time in an argument with someone who seemingly goes to horse shows and jabs their jaws to the ground with all the rest of the people who can’t keep their mouths shut.
I haven’t done that by providing info on burning horses. I have people in my life who work (key word is work, not talk) in the jumper world who informed me of this method used during warm-up and schooling.

Who’s assuming anything? You’ve made it pretty clear that you go to horse shows and talk. “I’ll ask around at the horse show.” Sounds pretty clear to me.
On the other hand, this conversation has absolutely nothing to do with the OP. So say what you want, you won’t be getting responses from me cause it seems you are just here to stir the pot.

Lets see you and Yankee laweyer posted about me I’m just responding and you say I’m stirring the pot:lol::lol:. I live in KY and yes I was going to a party in the campgrounds and thought they would find this thread amusing:lol:. Sorry not looking to stir the pot you are the one that said I was full of myself yet I stayed out of most of this thread and I just saw some things you wrote and thought hmmm a tad hypocritcal of her/him…

Just checked on the CEF website & this is NOT listed as a banned substance in Canada!? No wonder people get all confused…what’s not allowed in one country IS allowed in another!

I don’t think the Canadians have ever banned anything except American beer and American Idol.

Now THAT is funny…although we did try to ban Celine Dion to to Las Vegas!!

errmm…to be honest…we’re not that high on your president either. But I understand some of you feel the same way.

That’s not true at all. You dropped her on the unsuspecting middle class of America to destroy their minds and weaken our economy with her mind warping music.

Dammit eclipse…they’re on to us

WHAT??? Canada has no Canadian Idol??? Simon! What the heck? Where is your brain, man? Has Alex Trebek heard this? Allen Thicke? Paul Schaffer? Mike Myers? No one is stepping up and hosting this? Gosh, here I thought Canada was more likely to have an Idol than even us? Heads will roll.

They do have a Canadian Idol, don’t they?

I thought I saw it when I was in Canada for a show a couple of years ago.

I didnt read through all the posts so this maybe a duplicate if so sorry. My horse use to get the substance unknowingly to me until reading about it on here becasue I had him on Black as Knight and the chemical is in paprika. I never knowlingly gave it to my black horse, but thank god he was never randomly tested. I never noticed a difference when he wasnt on it except for his coat. Could the horses have gotten it that way?

You might have seen my earlier post re Black as Knight; I first learned about capsaicin when researching that product to see if it would be okay to give to my competition horse a few years ago, and found that paprika contains capsaicin, and that capsaicin is prohibited by USEF.

Theoretically, the horses could have tested positive because of the use of Black as Knight or a similar product containing paprika. In this case, though, 2 of the 4 riders have said that they used Equi-block, which contains capsaicin. Though they may also have been using coat enhancers or another innocuous product with paprika in it, I think they probably realize by now that paprika contains capsaicin and they would have said something. (Of course, I am not ruling out the possibility that the test results were false positives, and the riders who admitted use of that cream were “flushed out” by coincidence). But so far there are 2 riders who have stated they used a product with capsaicin, and the other riders have not issued a public statement yet (to my knowledge).

All said and done I think the capsaicin thing is a load of hog wash…A perfect example of…‘if we can find it we can make it illegal’!! You can’t have it both ways FEI!! Either it is a for hypersensitization -inflammation -or it is an anti-inflammatory. BS - ‘it depends on how you use it’!! If they want to ban local anti-inflammatories…they will have to ban cold water and ice…come on!!! I have tried to ‘blister’ horses (for therapeutic reasons only) with the stuff…it doesn’t blister! As far as numbing is concerned, it probably doesn’t work as well as ice. I know, I know…it’s a ‘banned substance’ therefor illegal…but I ask you…if Ben-gay helps your sore wrist…does that make it a ‘drug’??? I’ve had this stuff on me…it doesn’t numb anything! The FEI needs to recognize the difference between therapy and doping! Antibiotics and ulcer meds also used to be illegal…FEI get in the game! If we are not allowed to help the equine athlete to be more comfortable in any way at all, why are we doing this? Try reading the list of allowable medications for human athletes…it will take you all day. It even includes lidocaine, a local anaesthetic!!!
Deep breath…OK…I’m over it

Oh yes they do. Contestants sing Anne Murray, Bryan Adams and Gordon Lightfoot songs. No kidding.

Celine Dion is an unintended consequence of NAFTA.

OK… Celine is Canadian…but they love her in Las Vegas…they can keep her…kay??!

I don’t think there is any need for the FEI to be able to determine why a competitor was using the stuff.
They’ve said “no, you can’t”. That’s all they need to do.

The FEI needs to recognize the difference between therapy and doping!

The don’t have to allow anything they don’t want to, therapeutic or otherwise.
There are a lot of “therapeutic” substances which could be used in ways that would confer an advantage.
Way too hard to determine intent.
Far easier to simply say “no”.
If you don’t like it, don’t compete on their turf.

Personally, I’m with the folks who would like to see minimum thresholds vs.any detectable level, at least for some things. But right now, it is what it is.
Follow the rules, get nailed, or don’t play in their sandbox.

This is a great expression for a LOT of horse-show situations, e.g., those that complain about rules, closing deadlines, judges, facilities, etc. etc. etc. If you want to play with the big boys, guess what? There needs to be a level playing field so you care competing equally. You don’t like it? Don’t go.

Ghazzu, mind if I steal your line for my signature? Of course, I’ll give you credit…

I don’t disagree, except my experience in observing situations like this is that it will never change until somebody plasters the issue across the front pages of the sport.

You can sit at home writing letters or speak in front of committees until you are blue in the face and I doubt they would have been bothered to do much more than pat you on the head and say “that’s nice sweetie, no run along and play”. So while I sure as shit would not be the one to (intentionally) create the situation which plasters it across the front page, my bet is it is the ONLY way the idea of allowable thresholds will get more than lip service.

As it is, I’m not sure that even two Olympic debacles will do it.
