What is the buckle for on these girths?

The buckle in the middle by the D-ring?
I can’t picture what purpose it serves.

In case you don’t have a martingale or breast collar with a clip, and you want to use the “normal” kind that slips over the girth? Possibly? I’ve never used a stud guard but that would be my thought

Plus these are all three the same girth

The last link has this in the description: " center D-ring for training aid attachments."

Yes, you use it to attach your martingales or similar equipment. Since the girth is wide, they do not slip over the girth.

D ring is for clipping draw reins, etc. leather loop with buckle is for buckling in the loop of a martingale/breastplate…the extra width of the girth shortens your breastplate by that extra four inches or so if you slip it over the girth, which is fine for a larger breastplate on a smaller horse, but makes the breastplate not fit on a large horse. Or, if you use your breastplate with multiple girths and slip it over this girth, you’d have to adjust it every time. Thus, the buckle.

Thanks! Mystery solved.
