What song do you canter to?

Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush.

Take my word for it, it works. I used it when cantering my OTTB on the trails. It would help me confirm that he was not building steam at the canter. If I found myself singing it faster and faster, I knew we were in for trouble…

What tempo is your horse at? Mine is in the 90s to high 80s on the metronome.

I love using Katy Perry Roar and Deanna carter we danced any way. Dixie chick not ready to make nice and wide open spaces

love trotting to sexy back. It really works! And then from the musical Oklahoma surrey with the fringe on top

Oh Susannah. Perfect rhythm. Or “my Favorite Things ( you know…Raindrops on Roses…”). Try it. You’ll like it.

My pony canters perfectly to Sweet Child of Mine by GNR.

Canter – “Saint Patrick’s Day”
Trot – “D’ye Ken John Peel?” or almost any college fight song
Liberty Bell March up-tempo

James Brown - Living in America!

My horse cantered nicely to “Drive” by R.E.M.

I love the Avicii album True. I have the CD in the player all the time at the barn, and call it my mojo music. The first four songs are great to warm up to, especially when you aren’t really feeling up to riding. They have a good forward trot beat for the first two songs, then a slower trot beat ( I typically work on lateral work) for the 3rd song, and then a great transition at the fourth song for canter work. The rest of the CD is good too, but by the time I hit the fifth song I don’t need as much “help” from the music to keep going

Not so much to help with rhythm, but while on course I often find myself singing the opening line to the song, “I’ve Seen All Good People (Your Move)” by Yes:

“… Take a straight and stronger course
To the corner of your life…”

“My Favorite Things” - from Sound of Music

The Tennessee Waltz. No! I’m not from Tennessee.

The good old ABCs always worked to keep me in a rhythm. I may need to up my game and get something a little more contemporary.

Being the dinosaur that I am, I was pleased to find songs that I know and love on this thread. Yes, ELO, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, and Bob Marley.

And for a most mellow canter how about some Pink Floyd “breathe”

you have to wait until it gets into the body of the song.

Any traditional country song works for me-- probably a reason these were “cowboy” songs, they seem to rock along with the rhythm of a cantering horse. I am talking—cowboy traditional cowherding sort of things. I find myself singing “I ride an Old Paint” to my horse as we canter-- though he is neither old nor a Paint. The rhythm works.
