About locking trunks, it depends what kind of trunk you have.
If you have a Husky/Stanley plastic trunk that seems to be very popular now, the keys are the same and you can easily buy replacements to get into someone else’s trunk.
These trunks also have a spot where you can fasten your own padlock for extra security.
This is also another good option! I was at a barn where I had to attach my bit, girth, & stirrups together via a padlock to keep them from getting used by other people as well as locking up the actual tack trunk. It was a little bit of a pain but I preferred it to having my stuff trashed or taken
It’s easy to mark girths with permanent marker on the elastic near the buckles. It’s hidden from view by the saddle when riding. If you have an all leather girth with no elastic (not many like this are used these days) you can buy little metal letters on wooden blocks. These are what leather workers use to stamp patterns or initials into leather goods. You could probably even use a flathead screw driver to crudely hammer your initials on center of a leather girth. It wouldn’t been seen when riding. This is in addition to putting a padlock on your locker.
Thanks for all the responses. I have decided to get a tack trunk and make my trainers aware that I am serious about locating at least some of the items. To clarify, one of my girths is already marked with my initials, so I am hoping to be able to at least find that one. I am at a small boarding barn and did not expect theft. This situation is particularly frustrating considering I am only able to usually come out once a week and am very careful with my tack.
asside from calling the OP ‘the barn slob’
Not sure where you are going with this.
You take stuff that does not belong to you and don’t return it it is theft in the normal world.
And there stuff is normally not marked up because ‘horse’
Looks like your trainer is so careless if she has the access to locker then it’s her responsibility to lock the accessories carefully. It’s not just about the loss of item and money but it’s a matter of carelessness which will further have many other consequences.
Fwiw I in no way read your comment to be an accusation or claim that op was the barn slob, so rest assured that not everyone here is interpreting your claim as weirdly malicious or incomprehensible.
I did NO such thing. Get your head out.
Thanks!
you are being rude.
re-read your post, then get back with me.
Pull your head out. I accused the OP of NOTHING. Read my posts again and get back to yourself. Be sure to read them carefully as they don’t say anything near to what you believe them to say.
still rude. I am sure your mother is proud of you.
This doesn’t go well if the person complaining about stuff being stolen is the barn slob who leaves all their crap around and doesn’t put it back in their designated area.
your very first sentence.
