What to do when you're injured and "Self-employed."

You are smart to think ahead, I don’t think a lot of pros do that. Planning in advance for emergencies and injuries is an important step if you decide to turn pro (or maybe you already are?) Its a tough life, especially as you age. It is kind of sad if you read the OT forum about how many people (not just professional horsemen) are totally unprepared financially for their senior years. :frowning:

++ to what BAC said. Great to hear that you aren’t sitting at home laid up after horrific injury wondering how you’re going to make your next rent/mortgage payment.

The challenge when you’re starting off is making a living including putting funds aside to cover both short term and long term unemployment periods as well as insurance (oh, and silly things like taxes :wink: ).

this is exactly what disability insurance is for- the question is whether you can afford it or not.
