What to use on the "crud" on legs??
Its surprising to me that more horse people haven’t discovered the product that clears up cannon keratosis in 1-2 days. It is called Equiderma Lotion. It can be rubbed on the cannons to prevent the crud from coming back. Race track grooms are all using it and call it the “blue stuff”. It is only in certain states, otherwise you need to order it on the equiderma website. If you happen to be in Maryland, pm me and I will tell you where to buy it.
I wanted to come back and say I finally ordered this after seeing your post, put it on my mare yesterday, and I’d say at least 75% of the crud came right off today! YAY! I’ve been dealing with this for 5 years, because it was SO bad when I bought her. I use the coal tar shampoo, put various creams on it, etc., but it was looking really, really bad lately. It was built up really thick so it’s going to take a few applications, but thanks for posting this. I bought mine at Jeffer’s

Just used the Equiderma Lotion on my gelding last weekend and it’s awesome! I smoothed it on and left it overnight - next day curried gently and 95% of the crud came off - without hair loss or raw patches! Great stuff

^ My mare lost a fair amount of hair, but hers is BAD :frowning: A little hair loss is well worth it if this crud finally goes away.

I also used it on my gelding and his came completely off, but his is pretty mild and never builds up even though I pretty much ignore it.

MTG works wonders, but I’m fairly certain it shouldn’t be used under wraps.

I suffered through the late 80s and 90s with a grey mare with this in PC and 4H. Of course once she was retired I thought to use it… Oh well, her legs were gorgeous for her final years .

Great Feedback NewHorseMommy! I went for morning workouts at a nearby track yesterday and saw several grooms using Equiderma. The call it the “blue stuff” for cannon scurf.

How do you know if it is cannon keratosis or a fungal infection of the scratches/rain scald family?

Mine gets it and it gets worse if I touch it, but it doesn’t look bad if I just leave his legs alone, so that’s what I do.

I have some Excalibur (used it for the gelding and my mares teats) and it worked wonderfully…one shampoo.

I was wondering if it appeared because in the hot summer she was hosed off a lot and the legs maybe not dried properly. Will be more careful next time.
She is thin skinned and has fine hair…Trick is to keep brushing, and there are several treatments that seem to work as well as another. I just had the Excalibur on hand.

Dawn dish soap. Honest!
