What would you pay for an exercise rider?

post is old but awesome

I pay $10/hr to a 15 year old to “keep horses feet moving at a trot/canter” for 45 min with a 5 min walk break. I allow 15 for saddle/unsaddle (kisses --she likes to kiss the horses). She rides under my supervision (I’m working a second horse). She’s light handed, kind, weighs maybe 90 pounds and has a good seat. She doesn’t want lessons, and I don’t want to give them --she can’t tell if she’s on the right diagonal --but she can id leads --I guess you get what you pay for --she’s fine for keeping my second flight horse in reasonable shape riding him out 3-4 times a week doing the above.

At the track, the going rate is $20, and in the off season we pay the same for on the farm rides.

For me it depends on what my trainer charges. Now I wouldn’t pay an exercise rider because my trainer only charges $30 for a training ride. If my trainer charged $50? I would totally use a competent exercise rider at $20 a ride. More if they were that good.
