What's a poor huntress wannabe to do?

My suggestion is that you should call Miss Rita Mae, of Oak Ridge Hunt. She would love your story and desire and i would bet could fix you up in a heart beat. Yes its Virginia, but she would SO get your situation and find you a horse. Oak Ridge is not snobbish at all. They would love that you want to be there! You would have a great time.:)
I would SO love to do that, I am a huge fan of hers…but alas, the heese, the house, the husband cant do without me, not to mention getting there, cost of everything etc etc. I will have to scrimp and save for awhile to even make it from here to Belle Meade. I have my horses at home, DH has a killer commute, and on and on. But boy, if the space aliens came and picked me up and set me down at OakRidge, I’m telling you I would hunt with them if I had to steal a horse and tack and duds to do it!

Whenever a “renegade Pack” crops up in Ms Brown’s books I’m thinking, wow, wonder who I could recruit locally to go mow down coyotes. There ARE some foxhounds around here. Just mostly all the equestrian types are barrel racers or reiners or do other cowy things with their steeds.

But I’m LOVING the encouragement I’m getting.

Some of us were scarred for life, viewing the movie Tom Jones at an impressionable age. Great foxhunt in that flick.

Hey! i am in Aiken SC, and would love to have a hilltopping buddy!! I have friends at Belle Meade, and I am sure they would be happy to take you out!!!
Back about 12-13 years ago I left my life and horses in OH and went on the road with the current Mr Jeano, whose work had him on the road at various nuclear installations and a home base, more or less, in Aiken. We spent several months over a couple of years time living in a motel in Aiken during his work week in between road trips to other parts of the country. Being a “guest worker” in Aiken when you are horseless is the most sophisticated torture on the planet. Currently Mr Jeano drives from where we are, close to Milledgeville, GA, to Ft Gordon in Augusta EVERY day.

Right now I am in the throes of working on my riding buddy, who has a trailer, to even think about taking the nags in the general direction of Belle Meade.

Tell you what, if ever you are in this part of the world, I could give you a great horseback tour of the swamps and powerlines.

Tom Jones

In the movie, Tom Jones, they were stag hunting. Not that it makes a tremendous amount of difference. That movie got me thinking about hunting at a young age, too.

I didn’t go on my first hunt until I was 50. Better late than never.
