What's your method for cutting a long mane?

If they are good about pulling that is what I do after it has been combed through well. For really thick manes I have thinning/chunking scissors from the Beauty supply shop. I have a set for me and one for pony. Thick Welsh mane and doesn’t enjoy pulling.

That’s what i do. Either a clipper blade or open a pair of scissors and hold so you scrape the spot instead of cutting it.

Yep, I cut the mane straight across with thinning shears. Multiple, multiple times along the same “line”. It doesn’t thin the mane that’s left, and that can be done “after” if necessary. I like this because cutting the mane straight across with regular scissors makes the mane look cut with scissors! I was accused of giving a bowl cut once. Ugghh! But cutting the mane across with the thinning shears multiple times a) cuts at slightly different locations each time, so the final product looks like a nicely pulled mane and b) my hands get too tired to do it all in one sitting (but I would if I needed to) - I suspect that a long morgan-like mane would really tire the hands or the horse. I do the finishing with regular scissors. Does that make sense? I’ve gotten nice compliments on “pulled mane” by doing this.
