When are you too old to buy a horse?

Well, I’m happy this Zombie Thread got ressurected. My dearest Heart Horse is 17 this year and I’ve been telling myself for years he will be the last horse I ever own. I can’t imagine any other horse but him in my life. On the other hand, I can’t imagine not having a horse in my life till the day I die.

I was 62 when I bought an unstarted 2.5 year old. I don’t think I’d do that again - but I would buy an older, started horse. FWIW, I got that horse to 2d level, then he was injured. I’m still riding him, sadly, walk only, a little trot, hoping he’ll come sound, but could I afford to support two horses, I’d be out shopping - at 73. ( and yeah, there’s been a broken arm, some bruises, a banged up and drained knee along the way, but that could have happened at any age.)

I’m 62 and realize my horses are both in their mid and late teens. I have the same questions…and keep eyeballing the New Vocations OTTBs… I sure don’t feel much different than 10 years ago…wiser, but not different
