When do you think most TBs stop growing?

So happy to hear that people are finding it useful. I’ve delved into this author’s articles, website, and works and find much there to learn from.

How tall was Teddy O’Connor?

My TB gelding grew 2" after I got him at 6. He was 16.3 when I got him and we didn’t think that he’d get any taller, but would just fill out, but he had different plans :o. I stopped sticking him at 8 because I didn’t want to know if he was still getting taller, I’m only 5’3" and I didn’t want a big horse. He was put down at 11 and I think that he might have finished filing out and finally figuring out where his feet were, but who knows. He was also Unbridled lined and extremely lanky, which others have mentioned often makes them late maturers, so maybe that was it.

ETA: He finally finished growing up mentally at 10. That was the first year I could pull him off a trailer and show him without all hell breaking loose. He was eternally baby-brained until he wasn’t anymore and then he was like an old campaigner-type.

Every TB I have ever had has grown an inch their 5th year. They grow in height to age 6 and then grow in width.
I have never had one of those thin looking TBs. I still don’t believe they exist.
Mine are huge bulky thangs. All need at least a M/W to W saddle when done growing.

My lil Trakehner TB mare is 6. She put on an inch this past 7 months.
She’s not done.
I had to start feeding her a shit ton this summer. I can’t seem to make her fat right now. Which means…she’s going through a big growth spurt!!!
yippee!!

It just sucks for training purposes. I find that growth causes them to be physically stupid. Lol.
