Where did you get your farm sign?

I’m looking for a gift for someone. I’m thinking economical, because I don’t have a lot of cash at the moment. It wouldn’t need to be large, either - maybe just about a foot and a half or so? I’m not sure. I’m not wedded to any specific material, so tell me what works.

So tell me, wise COTHers who probably have signs on their farms. Good sources?

I used a local sign merchant but it was not cheap. Etsy has a lot of good options!

I got a stencil and stenciled my farm name on my mailbox.

A nice piece of wood (I used a sanded piece of oak), and a wood burning tool, and a tiny smidgen of artistic talent. Finish with a sealant.
Be creative!
The recipient will be so impressed and appreciative

I got mine from a local company, Image Advertising. They did a fabulous job of adapting my existing logo! It was a christmas present from the DH.

My husband made mine out of wood trimmed out with bull-nose trim for the edges and used vinyl sign letters that were made at a sign shop. The sign is white with the edging red and red letters. It is hung by two sets of eye bolts and double ended snaps above our barn doors.
The edges we have touched up with red paint once in the past six years, the letters look as good as new. Mine was a present also.

A split log (lengthwise, left over from building the log house), and a router. Removed all wood OTHER than the letters of the farm name, so the letters are raised. Then used a hand chisel to erase the router marks, and instead leave carving marks on the wood. Easy. Painted the letters green. Inserted screw eyes on top, and hung off chain (it’s HEAVY!).

No suggestions as to where to get it done, but as a picky farmowner, unless you know for sure what your giftee wants to see on a sign it might not be the best appreciated gift.

Is there an existing logo you would be replicating?

If someone gave me a sign w/o my input on design - including type font & color - I might do the Polite Accept: “My, my, how nice!”
But unless it fit my admittedly picky standard it would not get displayed anywhere public.

I have a friend who does them. Custom, hand drawn, on antique wood.

We had our high school shop class make ours.
They have a plasma cutter and they made it out of steel figures and letters.

They did a wonderful job, had many compliments on it.

The cost was only for the sheet metal, I think it was $36 for the whole sheet and they had plenty left over for other projects.
As is customary, we also made a donation to the shop program.

You may want to check your high school shop teacher for ideas.

I actually do her marketing, so I designed the logo and know exactly what she wants  I just don’t think she expects it to actually appear.

Thanks for the input! I’m waiting on quotes from a few people now.

Cutter99, those signs are gorgeous!

Alfonsina- she does gorgeous work and everything is hand drawn, including the lettering. She is also a horse person so she “knows” animals as far as painting them. She sources antique, old wood that also adds tons of character to the sign.

I have quite a few of her pieces as we’ve been friends for close to 20 years. We joke my house is the future museum of her work!
