Where do you put your litter box for indoor kitties?

In the bathroom, wedged between sink and toilet. I dump soiled (flushable) litter in the toilet so it’s the ideal spot for it.
I refuse to use plastic bags/liners, what a polluting waste that is!

No problem with odors since I discovered Arm & Hammer Cat litter Deodorizer. The litterbox is on a folded towel that I wash/change regularly, and we use a small shower mat that we keep folded on the bathtub unless someone is taking a shower, so no problem.

When Mr. DDk and I built our house 11 years ago we put in a “cat room”. It is the size of a small walk in closet and has an industrial fan in it. We put a cat door in the man door so the dogs can’t get to them. It is really nice not having the litter boxes in our living space:yes: We do not put their food in there but just their 4 litter boxes.

I have a good size unfinished basement so all the litter boxes go down there. Except the latest stray is afraid to go to the basement, so I have a litter box in the hallway between the laundry room and the downstairs bathroom “temporarily.” Its been almost a year though and I finally coaxed him to come downstairs this weekend, let’s hope he overcomes his fears soon.

What makes the World’s Best Cat Litter so great? I use whatever scoopable brand is cheapest at the moment (Scoop Away, Tidy Cat, etc.).

when I have two bathrooms it goes in the guest bathroom, at the moment I have a tiny half bath and a HUGE bathroom so its in the giant bathroom, but that is also where is food is and there is a baby gate to keep the dogs out of his space

Basement bathroom. Love the location.

I also use the Worlds Best Cat Litter along with Swheat Scoop, mixed. I use them b/c they are flushable. Makes cleaning boxes so easy. Scoop, flush, sweep. Done.

I have been mixing the Swheat Scoop with Tidy Cat or whatever, hoping to convince my kitties that it is better, but I didn’t realize it is flushable.

How does Worlds Best Cat Litter differ from other kitty litters?

World’s Best is corn based, rather than clay or wheat or newspaper. It is light to carry around and absorbs and clumps well. Most people find it less smelly than clay (I found it has a very weird smell that was quite off-putting, but it didn’t really smell like a cat box) and easy to scoop. It’s got the right sandy texture that kitties like. Some critters may think it’s tasty, even all on it’s own, since it really is just processed corn.

I recently picked up some Arm and Hammer–we needed some weight in the back of the Mustang, due to a surprise snow storm!–and I’ve been shocked at how absolutely terrible it smells. I usually use Precious Cat Ultra, and it is SO much better.

I live in a rather old, teeny-tiny little house. The closet space consists of one that is about 3ft deep (maybe) and 2 feet across, and utility “closet” in the kitchen which is basically the hot water heater and some shelves. I pondered litter box placement for quite awhile in anticipation of the boys’ arrival.

It is in my living room, shoved in the most private corner I could find without it being right in the main space. I got them one of the round Booda boxes with a lid, and we all live pretty happily with this arrangement. They don’t seem to mind its location, and it was the best I could do in such a tiny little house without it being in the bathroom (yuck, and uncertain it would work) or the kitchen (hell no! Bad enough they have to eat on the counter!).

It had been awhile since I had house cats, so when I went to stock up for them, I was a little blown away by the selection of cat litter! I ended up with World’s Best, and LOVE it. I rarely smell the box, unless it is very, very recently used (and obsessively ask friends who visit “can you smell it???”). The boys seem to like and are also fastidious little guys (other than their random acts of puking). Not too much tracking around, and the lid helps since they both have to be sure they are business is extremely well buried.

I am pretty sure this stuff is flushable. Anyone know if it is safe for septic? I’ve been bagging and tossing.

Clay-based cat litters are strip-mined, in most cases, and also seem to contain carcinogens in some cases:

World’s Best Cat Litter is made of corn, and while corn farming isn’t the least environmentally problematic activity, it’s a damn sight less destructive than strip mining.

I have used it for a couple years, and have 4 indoor cats. It lasts pretty long if you stay on top of scooping.

My rule for catboxes is that they cannot sit on a non-tile surface. Never ever. No. So mine are: 3 in my very large weird half bath (off what used to be the garage, now my room), and 1 in the laundry room. I use covered boxes w/ no flap, and my 4 girls are very good about them.

I love male cats, but I find them to be consistently more prone to litter box faux pas than girls. So it’s all girl kitties for me, at least as indoor cats.

Thanks everyone for the info about World’s Best Cat Litter, I am going to try it and hope they don’t eat it. I am down to only 2 cats and neither will use the covered litter box, only the two I lost recently liked that one. Life would be so much neater if they did, as my two boys love to fling litter all over the floor, I swear they are trying to dig to China.

As other said, its corn based. I find that it doesn’t smell. My home is under 800 sf, so cat smells can take over every room. The other huge bonus is it doesn’t stick to the paws the way other litters do and get tracked all over the place. I put solids in the toilet and scoop the urine into a bag in the cabinet under my bathroom sink.

I am single w/a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, split floor plan house.
2 cats. I have half the house and the cats have the other:lol:

One box is in the spare BR “on” the tub. I built a platform that fits on the tub and litter box is on the tub.

Second box is in the spare bedroom. To solve the litter on carpet issue, I have two washing machine pans. One that the litter box sits on and one in front of it. I have a screen (a big piece of cardboard) along side and the cat has to walk out across the pans which takes care of most of the litter before they get to the carpet.

I don’t like covered litter boxes but I had one that started whizzing over the side. After the vet cleared him medically, I tried several things but what has worked is the tall sided Sterilite/Rubbermaid storage totes. I cut a hole in the end and that IS the litter box. Whizzing problem gone and it has greatly decreased the litter scatter. No lid on top to trap odors. It worked so well, I changed the other box to match.

I too use World’s Best. I tried clay…triple yuck. I went back to WB.

I live in an apartment, so out of necessity and space limitations, the litterbox is in my bathroom. Luckily it is in a nook under the cabinet, and with my red Hoover sucking up the excess litter on the floor every few days isn’t bad.

I wish my laundry room had the stackable units, so the litterbox could go in there. Currently the washer and dryer are facing each other so the only free space is in the middle. If they were stacked, I’d have that whole wall free.

I have it inside the laundry room and I also put old calendar papers under the litterbox. That helps me with the mess.

Laundry room with tile floor. Bi-fold doors on laundry room are hollow core (ie not real wood!!) and I had someone cut a small rectangle opening at the bottom of one side. Kitties go in, litter-obsessed dog lays with his nose at the hole…,
My girls do not like tops on their potties, so my next project is to find a way to keep the litter a bit more confined.

Edited to add: Kyrabee - that sounds like a GREAT idea. I may have to go to Lowe’s tomorrow…
