If so I haven’t seen it?
Just learned someone can low-ball your starting bid on ebay and make you a counteroffer. Considering I start my bidding at the lowest price I would be willing to accept for an item, I think I’m burnt out on ebay, too. My local rescue group is about to get another box of goodies from me and I’m going to call it a day.
I have a load of used horse stuff to get rid of too and can’t figure out how best to get rid of it. Donate, Craigslist, eBay, Facebook? really don’t have the time to post it on eBay, then pack and ship it.
funny, I don’t sell on eBay, but boy I sure buy a lot !
i also have tons of breeches and tops I need to get rid of.
I need to stop shoppping, or just be happy with what I have…
I have had luck selling horse clothes on Poshmark, and horse items on Ebay, and Facebook. Do NOT use the app, Tack Hunter for buying OR selling!
I’m intrigued by usedhorsestuff.com - has anyone tried it? Looks like it takes a while to get your money and of course they take a sizeable commission. But - they photograph your items and market them to a nationwide audience and handle all the shipping and payment.
I am disappointed that my nearly new Equifit hunter girth and a kids worn-once Ariat softshell coat (current style) got no responses on Facebook groups. Maybe I’m on the wrong ones. My prices were very good. Where are all the bargain hunters who want nice things?
I take nice stuff to Middleburg Tack Exchange and let them do what they do best. For me it’s worth the drive (I pass other tack shops to get there) and commission to have items priced right and sold quickly. They send checks every month, and they’ll donate your items if they don’t sell. (Or you can go pick them up.) No effort on my part.
Sometimes I use a more local consignment option for something I expect to sell well locally. And then FB/Craigslist. Facebook is really hit or miss for me. Sometimes things sell immediately, sometimes there is zero interest.
Ebay is sneaky. When you list an item for sale, check out your listing and make sure they have not listed it with a “Best Offer” option. You have to intentionally turn off that option on the listing. This didn’t use to be the case, but it’s one of their new “improvements”.
I do still sell things on ebay, but my new rule of thumb is to price everything so that I would think I was getting a good deal if I was buying it. I don’t make quite as much as I have in the past, but the items sell much quicker, and it makes me happy to think of someone else enjoying their “find” as much as I do when I find a good bargain.
Sorry but FB is definitely the easiest place to sell and you make the most money from sales. I sell a lot and I won’t sell on Ebay any more because they are 100% buyer oriented and sellers get screwed. Often when I sell on FB, things are sold within an hour or two of posting. If you are honest, price stuff fairly, and take good pics of clean items you can usually do very well on FB.
Yeah, that was a new one to me. Lesson learned. Same person offered me a frankly insulting price not once but twice on an item that was already priced at a steal. Left a definite bad taste in my mouth.
I guess another “improvement” is the automatic reposting if items don’t sell? I had to go in and take my items down after their sale ended and eBay immediately threw them back in at a reduced price.
I haven’t experienced this yet, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Another trick they have is to add a “Best Offer” option after the item has been listed a certain number of days without selling. It’s annoying because I have to check on listings daily now to make sure that ebay hasn’t made any more “improvements” when I wasn’t looking.
