If it is the Iron Mountain I am thinking of, it is located within Jefferson National Forest, and there are many unique towns nearby.
We camp near Wytheville, VA every year, which is a larger small town for the area with restaurants, shops, a decent hospital. Abingdon, VA is also nearby with many of the same amenities. Bristol, VA/ Bristol, TN are a little further south, and if you live on the TN side of Bristol, there is no state income tax.
We looked at a farm in Marion, VA a few years ago, and we love the area and the town. It has a very nice fitness center run by Emory and Henry College as part of their medical college, a couple of good feed stores, shops and some good restaurants. Had the farm met the description of the real estate listing, we probably would have moved there. But, they failed to advertise the washer and dryer were housed in the master bedroom, at the foot of the bed, among other things!
