Where to board near Boston?

Cutter Farm in Dracut might be worth looking at. Excellent care (the horse and I would not have survived the past few years without the help of the owner, manager and staff there), large indoor, outdoor, field and access to trails. 3 good trainers are available or you can bring your own. Occassional clinics and 2 phase shows spring, summer, and fall. Nice supportive atmosphere with very little drama. If you were to buy a houe near there, there is a commuter rail in Lowell.

I boarded there for quite a while and really liked it but my mare ended up needing more turnout than they could provide. It was a really great barn, though. I loved having the state forest next door and did a lot of trail riding.

I don’t know if they board but in Concord there is Verill Farm. There is a train station not far and I know it’s “fairly” easy to get in and out of that area.

Jen Phalen is running the program there now and she’s great but I imagine it has a decent lesson/training requirement (hunter/jumper barn).

My horse needs a lot of turnout time. He is out from 3 in the afternoon until 8 in the morning. He is then entertained by being moved from stall to stall during the day. He came from a place where he had 24/7 turnout and I was concerned about this, but he adjusted quite well to the schedule. His age may have something to do with it.

The Cutter Farm has at times had boarders using the paddocks with sheds in a very similar arrangement, but I don’t know if it’s still offered. 24/7 turnout is really hard to find in this area. My retired mare has it, but it’s at a very small private barn that doesn’t offer what you’re looking for. (Plus I think the owner really wants to keep it all mares!)

My horse is currently at Cutter. He is out 17 hours a day, which seems to be enough turnout for him now. He does get a bit pushy with the staff if he isn’t ridden regularly.

That’s great! When I was there, it was mostly school horses living outside, bit occasion there would be a spot for a boarder.

When I left Cutter in 2024, I was following a trainer to a new to her barn, and 24/7 outdoor living for my mare. All things considered, I should have just headed straight to the North Shore (was there 2017-2022.) I was starting to do way more trail riding and less dressage, and let me just say that the trainer was
 not good to me.
