Where to Find - Breastplates

I am looking for a new breastplate. The styles I really like are the Amerigo and the Dyon, also the Nunn Finer has a similar one but I can’t seem to find them online anywhere. They are not a five point, and not a traditional elastic, but sort of a three point?

This style:

Do you know of any other brands that make this style?

Thanks

Have you checked out Antares? I noticed Philip Dutton’s breastplate in the photos from Great Meadow and he was using something that looks very similar to the Dover one you posted, and since Antares is one of his sponsors I am guessing that is probably what he is using. I think the pictures were on Eventing Nation but I’m sure he has some posted on his website, since he won two divisions at Great Meadows, I think.

Have you talked to anyone at Bartville Harness?

Here is the Amerigo http://www.tailoredequestrian.com/amerigo-v-check-breastplate.html
or http://www.wellington-riding.co.uk/products-page/bridles-leatherwork/breastplate/amerigo-v-check-breastplate/ (this is a pricey breastplate)

No luck on the Dyan - I know them primarily from endurance stuff - perhaps they were bought out by someone else.

Other options:

Bit of Britain carries theirs http://www.bitofbritain.com/Nunn_Finer_3_Way_Breastplate_w_Elastic_p/5097.htm

Vespucci does one http://www.fourstarbrand.com/product/eventing-breast-plates/vespucci-elastic-breastplate/

as does Five Star Tack (amazing quality) http://www.fourstarbrand.com/product/eventing-breast-plates/signature-equine-breastplate/

I really like this one (slightly different): https://www.horseloverz.com/product/martingales-and-breastcollars/297799-amigo-breastplate-with-martingale.html (high quality for the price)

Here is the Antares: https://www.smartpakequine.com/antares-elastic-breastplate-4726p

An inexpensive Smartpak one (I’ve liked the SmartPak tack I’ve bought) https://www.smartpakequine.com/harwich-elastic-breastplate-by-smartpak-9843p

Hastilow does one http://www.hastilowusa.com/martingales-and-breastplates/v-check.html

I quite like the prestige one http://www.cheshirehorse.com/Prestige-Elastic-Breastplate-P3307.aspx

Ovation http://www.vtosaddlery.com/product/BRSTPLT/OHBW.htm

And many other places: http://www.bellbusksaddlery.co.uk/Pages/ElasticHuntingBreastplate.aspx

That Nunn Finer one looks like Bartville work. I’d call them and buy it for 1/2 price.

My favorite:

No never heard of them, are they online?

Thanks scubed, most of those are the elastic style three point which I am not interested in - I have the prestige one and it is decent.

I saw one at an event recently and it was similar to the Nunn Finer. Like a 5 point but without as many straps.

Search for Bartville here on COTH. Definitely not online as they are Amish, but they have a nice catalogue and do lovely work for a very reasonable price.

The Antares one posted by scubed is not the one used by Philip Dutton in the photos I saw recently, so I guess it is by someone else. You can see pictures of it right here on COTH though, to the right of the forums.

CWD makes one where the straps connect to the billets instead of the d-ring. Almost all the riders sponsored by CWD use it. You can order directly from a CWD seller or this link:

Antares has one almost identical, the Klipper, first one listed on the page

For the Dy’on, I haven’t been able to find it for sale in the US, but here is a link to it from a store in New Zealand. If you know a store that carries Dy’on, they would be able to order this for you.

These are all expensive but I think this is what you are looking for.

EDIT: Looks like Butet makes one too, but no idea where you can buy one in the US

Fine Used Saddles has the other/all leather Antares breastplates:

Antares Leather Breastplate

Antares Klipper Breastplate

ETA: I think the Klipper is the one you are looking for, and appears to be the one PD is using in the pictures from the WEG prep event.

Look at the breastplates at Northrun Saddlery www.northrun.com. I can get you one at significantly less $ if you like them, brand new. Beautiful leatherwork and quality stitching. Happy to do it for fellow COTHers.

Running Fox in Canada sells Dyon, should be easier than ordering from NZ. And I think that Antares Klipper breastplate is the one PD was using at Great Meadow.

Bartville makes the Nunn finer hunting and 5 point breastplates. I have a hunting one with elastic that looks of the same construction as the one you posted. same elastic and buckles so I think they made that one. Call them between 8 and 8:15 as they are Amish and that’s the only time they are by the phone. No online presence but they do have a nice color catalog and their prices direct are about 1/2 of what you’d pay after they get the Nunn Finer packaging! They are in Christiana, PA. A bit more of a bother to buy from since it’s cash or check only but the prices and quality are well worth it. They will customize sizes for a very small addition fee.

Oh and listen when they suggest sizes. Their horse sized stuff is sized a bit small so perfect for the finer boned TBs that sometimes fit in Cob sizes. I should have listened when they told me go Oversized for my 16.2 TB. The shoulder straps on the breastplate are a bit tight on the last holes on the horse size.

Bartville is wonderful. I got an elastic hunting breastplate from them for about half of what it costs once the Nunn Finer label has been added… and the quality is absolutely worth the full price!

I saw they carry it, not a fan of them because they have massive mark ups.

Will Bartville ship to Canada or do custom style?

I have never dealt with either but I can see from Running Fox’s catalog and website they are pricey. I believe Bartville does custom but that is based strictly on what I have read on these forums, they sound very accommodating. I have no idea about shipping.

Have you checked PremierTackOutlet.com? Its all high end discounted tack, new and used, you might find a breastplate there.

They will do custom work… the resale shop is attached to their harness/leather shop so it’s super easy for them to mix and match parts. I’m not sure about shipping to Canada… I don’t see why not but you’d have to ask them.
