If you can’t find anyone local and decide to ship it out, Journeymen Saddlers in Middleburg, VA are wonderful: (540) 687-5888.
Thanks for the info @Montanas_Girl . Maybe I should reconsider and cart my saddle down to Bedford Tack, and have then take a look. I don’t have anything personally against them, I just don’t like to shop in Walking Horse places (for a number of reasons). Good point about being very, very specific. If I get a “funny” feeling about them doing the work, I just won’t leave the saddle with them.
Through some phone calls, got what I thought was a great lead - someone in Brentwood, TN that makes custom english hunter/jumper saddles named Butch (he’s also where many take their saddles for repairs). After some searching, found him “Butch’s Custom Saddlery”, but the phone number I’ve found is disconnected. No phone # on FB page either. He sounds ideal - he made saddles at Beval for years.
Anyone know a good number for him? The thought had occurred to me that he is retired now and that’s why the phone # doesn’t work and why there’s contact info on his FB page…
I love Bedford and National Bridle, but then of course I am a Walker girl. At least if you go to Bedford Tack, you can stop at the Bell Buckle café! That’s my usual when I am in the area. Good luck. English saddles aren’t all that different so hopefully they will be able to help.
