OP may want to contact you! I live in the same area (we may be neighbors, who knows) and I was thinking this might be a good area for them but the real estate inventory is so pitiful I didn’t bother mentioning it.

There was a police show from that area I liked to watch. Lt Joe Kenda. Lots of murders!

Yes, that was a great show. Sad cases though.
There is a new episode of that show coming out soon or it just came out recently

I love his dry delivery. Also think it’s funny that the guy they have portraying him is drop dead gorgeous but Lt Kenda… ah maybe not so much.
He did a show on at least one cruise. That would be about the only reason for me to get on a ship.

I haven’t lived in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill for 30 years. Knew it had grown a LOT, and it sounds like not necessarily for the better. Perusing real estate listings, it does look like we can find the real estate we want within budget, but it would be at the top of the budget.
The Tryon and Asheville areas are really looking interesting to us, seem to check all the boxes. And not so hot in the summer as the Piedmont.
Once we narrow the list a bit, we’re planning to spend significant amounts of time in the “finalist” locations to see what they’re really like if you live there.

I included that data point in my original post because it is THE reason we’re considering moving out of Oregon. Both my spouse and I are political moderates.
