Which grain would you choose?

While I agree with you, I’m sure someone somewhere gave notice saying they were moving in a month or two and ended up scrambling to find a place to stash their horse for the interim. Horse people can be crazy!

I gave notice at one place where the care had diminished so much I knew there would be an issue giving notice and that it would have been unacceptable to leave the horse there after giving notice. I gave my notice and the check as I was putting the horse on the trailer. I still got screamed at and got a barrage of texts and calls over the next few days telling me how awful I was and how she was going to bad mouth me to anyone who would listen, yada yada. It took threat of involving a lawyer to get her to leave me alone. And it’s not like I cut and run…she got a month’s board with no horse filling the spot.

I figured I’d update this thread…both of my horses have settled in really well. The new place feeds more hay than my old place (and really, I wasn’t taking issue with the amount of hay being fed at the old place, it’s just now they have hay in front of them 24/7 in nets).

The mare has really flourished on the Triple Crown Senior, enough that I’m gradually cutting back on her oil, so that’s great. She’s also eating both meals in one sitting, which she has never done before, so I am assuming she likes the TC Senior better than what she was eating before.

The gelding is also doing great on his ration balancer/alfalfa cube diet (in addition to the hay). His tummy is happier with this arrangement for sure.

I was totally happy with how both horses were doing at the old place, they just both seem to have an extra bloom, it’s cool to see how adjusting the feed has added that extra something both of them. I admit it’s totally possible that the hay is more of a factor than the grain, but who knows.

Hopefully the suggestions on the thread and my experiences might help someone else!

Awesome update! It’s nice to hear when things go so well. High quality, high quantity hay is the absolute key to good nutrition. At around 900kcal/lb and 30lbs a day the grain you feed in addition just fills in the gaps.
